Good Afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Broughton High School with some important announcements for the
upcoming week. A copy of these announcements will be posted on our school website and e-mailed to the Broughton email
group.
The Graduation date and time for Broughton High School Class of 2016 has been confirmed. The students of the Class of 2016
will graduate on Thursday, June 9th, at 10:00 a.m. in Holliday Gym. The mandatory Rehearsal for Graduation will be held on
Wednesday, June 8th, at 1:00 p.m. in Holliday Gym. Additional details about all Graduation and other Senior events will be
provided to our Seniors and their families at the first Senior meeting at the end of the First Semester.
The Class of 2016 needs all Seniors to turn in the Senior dues form and pay Senior dues of $40.00. The deadline for submitting
Senior Dues is Friday, October 16th. These dues are used to cover school sponsored Senior events, PLUS pay for cap, gown,
tassel and diploma cover. Information on the form is also used to order senior T-shirts, determine Cap and Gown size, and print
the Senior’s full name for their Diploma—so it is critical we get this information turned in. These forms can be found on the
Broughton website, under the Parents/Forms tab. Please print clearly on this form as we will use this information to print your
name on your Diploma. Please be sure to take care of this obligation and turn in the form by October 16 th so the correct size for
your Cap, Gown and Senior T-shirt can be ordered! The form and money can be turned in to Ms. Tollison in Student Services.
Checks should be made payable to BHS Class of 2016 with the student’s name on the memo line.
Broughton High School will administer the PLAN assessment to all Tenth Grade students this Wednesday, October 7th. ACT’s
PLAN assessment is a test designed to measure students’ curriculum-related knowledge and cognitive skills. PLAN assesses
English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science and will help our students assess their own college and career readiness while there
is still time to improve. Additionally, PLAN gives our students practice for the ACT. Testing should end by 10:45 a.m.
Our Fall Play, Alice in Wonderland, will run next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, October 8th, 9th, and 10th beginning at
7:00 p.m. in the Diane Payne Auditorium. Ticket prices are $5.00. Please come out and enjoy a wonderful evening at the theatre
being entertained by our talented students.
I want to make sure all qualified families are enrolled for free and reduced-price meals. If your family qualifies and you have not
completed an application for the 2015 – 2016 school year, we ask that you complete an application now. The application for
meal benefits must be completed annually. For families who qualified for the 2014 – 2015 school year, we have continued to
provide school lunches for students this school year. On October 7th any student without an approved application for the 2015 –
2016 school year will be expected to pay full price for breakfast and lunch.
If you have not completed a WCPSS Consent for Digital Access form, we need that form turned in immediately. If we do not
have permission from your student, then your student will not be allowed to use anything digital here at school. We are required
to have a Consent for Digital Access form for every student in our school. Please return these forms as soon as possible to your
student’s CAPS Class.
Applications are now available for the 2015 – 2016 Principal’s Student Advisory Council. I will be selecting students to serve on
this Advisory Council which will help provide input to me on various student issues and school policies. Applications are now
available and can be picked up in the Main Office. Applications must be completed and returned to the Main Office no later than
Friday, October 9th. I look forward to working with our students on this Council!
Support the Junior Class of 2017 and enjoy a delicious Barbeque Dinner catered by White Swan Barbeque before the
Homecoming Game! Tickets are $10.00 and the deadline to order is by Friday, October 16th. Order forms can be printed from
the Broughton website under the Parents/Forms tabs. Dinner will be served from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October
23rd in front of Holliday Gym. The BBQ is on rain or shine!
Our Fall athletic season is ending in the coming weeks and Conference Tournaments and State Playoffs will begin. Please check
the Broughton Athletic website for game dates and times and come out and support our Student Athletes for their last remaining
games, Senior nights, and playoff competition!
Those are all of the announcements for this week. Please continue to check the Broughton website for general information and to
read the DAB that is posted each day to our website to help you stay informed. I hope each of you stays dry and has a safe,
outstanding weekend! Go CAPS and please take care.
