Integrated Algebra

Throughout the year, we will be exploring various algebraic and geometric concepts to prepare for the NYS Algebra Regents exam in June. This class will focus on problem solving and topics including: properties of numbers, exponents, radicals, factoring, solving & graphing equations & inequalities, sets, and probability

& statistics.

 2” to 3” three-ring binder

 loose-leaf paper

 pencils (with erasers) and pens

** Purchasing a TI – 83 Plus graphing calculator is strongly recommended for this course. It is used for all Regents exams and upper level math courses.

You will be required to keep an organized notebook consisting of notes, worksheets, homeworks, quizzes, and tests. I will threehole punch everything for you to help you succeed in keeping your notebook neat and in order. This notebook will be a key component in our class, and it will be your responsibility to keep it updated at all times.

Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. It is absolutely essential that you complete these assignments to help you succeed in Algebra. I will be checking homework assignments and you will be graded on effort and completion. Incomplete assignments will result in a zero homework grade for that day. If you are absent, you will have one extra day to complete the missed assignment.

Failure to do homework will severely affect your Algebra grade.

NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Your grade in Algebra will be based on a variety of assessments including tests, quizzes, mini-quizzes, homework assignments, class activities, and Castle learning assignments. Short assessments will be given during each chapter, as well as longer tests/quizzes at the conclusion of longer units.

Although it is NOT mandatory, purchasing a TI – 83 Plus graphing calculator is strongly recommended for this course. It is used for all

Regents exams and upper level math courses. We will use the TI-83 calculator on a regular basis throughout the year!

Important Procedures to Know!

What do I do at the beginning of class?

 Enter the classroom and take your seat before the bell rings.

 Most days there will be an opening to complete during the first 2-3 minutes of class, it will either be on the board or handed out to you. We will then go over the answers together.

 Get your homework out to be checked. If you have any questions about the homework, I will spend a few minutes answering them. We can’t move on until you understand the previous material!

What do I do at the end of class?

 When the bell rings, please remain in your seat.

 I will dismiss you once we have finished our work.

 I promise to give you plenty of time to get to your next class.

What do I do if I was absent the day before?

 When you come to class check the Algebra folders on the side wall to pick up any handouts you missed from the day(s) you were absent.

 You may copy the notes you missed from a classmate or go to my Algebra website to copy them. Please do this on your OWN TIME, NOT during class!

 You will have one extra day to complete the missed homework assignment.

What do I do if I am late to class?

 If you have a pass, hand it to me and have a seat.

 Do not disrupt the entire class!

 If you do not have a pass, we will talk after class. No excuses.

What if I need to go to the bathroom?

 Go to the bathroom between classes, during lunch or during study halls.

 Never ask to go while I am teaching. Wait until a more appropriate time.
