on the basis of its structure and/ or composition
Can you classify matter? WS, Can you classify matter activity
Study for Celebration
Demonstrate an understanding of element, compound and mixtures through a Celebration.
Atoms vs. Molecules
A Worksheet
Illustrate the difference between a molecule and an atom.
Background information:
An atom is the basic building block of matter. It is the smallest particle of an element that can enter into a chemical change.
An atom consists of a central nucleus and electron clouds outside the nucleus. A symbol for the element represents the atom.
Examples are H, Al, Zn, Hg.
A molecule is the smallest part of a covalent substance that can exist free and still have the composition and properties of that
substance. Molecules are always composed of more than one atom. Examples are O 2, H2, H2O, C 6 H12 O6 , NH3 .
