Hennepin County selling compost bins
Backyard composting is a great way to turn food and yard waste into a nutrient-rich resource,
and Hennepin County is selling compost bins to help you get started.
Bins are 3’ x 3’ x 3’, made of cedar and wire mesh, and cost $45.
There are two options for purchasing a bin:
1. Purchase a bin at the Hennepin County Drop-off Facility in Brooklyn Park.
Pay at the facility; no pre-order needed. Cash or check only. Bins are for sale during
regular drop-off facility hours:
 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
 Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
 Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 Closed Mondays and Sundays
2. Pre-order online to pick up during an event.
You must submit a pre-order to get a bin at an event; there will be no additional bins
available for sale at the events.


Franklin Avenue East Open Streets, hosted by Hope Community
E. Franklin Avenue and Portland Avenue South in Minneapolis

Friday, September 12
4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Cedar Isles Dean Plant Distribution, hosted by Metro Blooms
Chowen Triangle, W 28th and Chowen Avenue in Minneapolis

Sunday, September 21
2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Como Cookout, hosted by Southeast Como Improvement Association
Van Cleve Park, 901 15th Avenue SE in Minneapolis
Bins are built by Sentencing to Service (STS) Homes crews, which is an on-the-job carpenter
training program for incarcerated men and women.
