FLOODS IN MEXICO:
SUEZ ENVIRONMENT TAKES ACTION TO RESPOND TO TABASCO STATE RESIDENTS’ WATER REQUIREMENTS
After the serious floods affecting Mexico and in particular Tabasco State, Aquassistance, SUEZ
Environment’s humanitarian organisation, has taken action side by side with local authorities
to respond to the drinking water supply emergency.
Together with the Mexican authorities and French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs,
Aquassistance has agreed to send and set up two drinking water units that produce up to 6,000 liters
per hour in the Tabasco State.
A team of Aquassistance and BAL-ONDEO volunteers has also travelled to the affected area to
supervise the installation of these drinking water units.
AQUASSISTANCE is a humanitarian association composed of SUEZ Group volunteer staff who assist people in
difficulty. It intervenes in the areas of water, the environment and waste, and makes equipment and its members’
know-how available to stricken populations. The association has around 600 members and organizes some 60
missions a year, mobilizing 100 volunteers. Aquassistance has already taken action in the following countries:
Senegal, Mauritania, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Haiti, Armenia,
Afghanistan, India, Vietnam and Romania. Aquassistance also took action in December 2004 to help victims of
the South-East Asian tsunami.
BAL-ONDEO is a joint venture between Peñoles and SUEZ Environment and is a strategic ally of the public
sector in the management of drinking water and wastewater treatment. It has 14 years experience in Mexico and
employs more than 1,000 staff via its subsidiaries, serving the authorities and residents of the cities of Cancún,
Isla Mujeres, the Federal District, Torreón and Matamoros.
SUEZ Environment, a SUEZ business line, provides equipment and services that protect the environment and
deliver the essentials of life. Its activities include drinking water production and distribution, wastewater collection
and treatment, and waste treatment and recovery. Backed by its experience in the water and waste cycles
industry, SUEZ Environment has a wide-ranging portfolio of know-how in providing a sustainable solution to the
requirements of local authorities and businesses. SUEZ Environment employs over 60,000 people worldwide and
