Fortnightly News
And God held in his hand a small globe devoid of light,
The Son looked upon this land – a dark and terrifying sight.
‘Let me go to them Father,’ he asked with a plea
‘They will be filled with light – I will set them free.’
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
The mark we bear to show our trust.
On Ash Wednesday, our Lenten journey begins
As we face our mortality, our thoughtlessness, our sins.
We remember the broken promises, the moments of weakness
We remember Jesus’s compassion, his selflessness, his meekness.
As the class altars are donned with purple cloths and our Lenten journeys begin, the children
have been reflecting upon this very special time in the church’s year – a time when we
prepare for the Resurrection of Jesus. Assemblies have been focused on reflection, selfexamination, abstinence and changing with the aim of becoming more Christ-like. It was
lovely to see so many parents and carers at Mass on Tuesday and we look forward to
welcoming you to events throughout the Term.
Berkshire Maestros
Today (Friday 27th February), Years 2 – 5 were given an Assembly from Berkshire Maestros
and enjoyed listening to the Violin and Cello. If your child would be interested learning to play
either of these instruments, please contact www.berkshiremaestros.org.uk

Lenten Prayer
Lord Jesus,
May this be the fast we choose:
To hold in our hearts the women and children who walk miles for water;
Never to take for granted the food that we eat, however plain it may be;
To complain less and to think more of others;
To share our bread in gratitude
And, as we count our blessings,
Inspire our giving, our acting and our praying
That, just a little, they may help to loosen the bonds of injustice, let the
oppressed go free and satisfy the needs of the afflicted.
So may all who fast, share in the feast of life.
