Senior Information Packet – Class of 2015
*We have tried to outline some important dates and activities for seniors and their families. Please note that all
information is tentative and is subject to change. Please check the school website or facebook page for more current
information as the time comes. If you purchased a senior package at registration, then you have already paid for your
student to participate in these events. We may ask for permission slips from them as the activity dates get closer.
Saturday, January 31st - Mid-Winter
Time: 7:30pm – 11:00pm
Place: TBA
Dress: Formal – School Dress Code Applies
Bring: Picture I.D.
Ticket Sales & Pricing: (all prices are per person and are subject to change)
January 6th-12th
$58 with ASB, $63 without ASB + guests from other schools
January 20th-23th
$58 with ASB, $63 without ASB + guests from other schools
January 26th-28th
$63 with ASB, $68 without ASB + guests from other schools
Description: Tickets will be sold at the ASB ticket windows during lunch. Refunds will not be given for any
reason. Students wishing to invite an off-campus guest may do so (waivers available on school website); all
guest waiver forms are due no later than January 9th in ASB. All Martin Luther King High School and RUSD
rules and regulations apply to this event. Questions regarding Mid- Winter should be directed to Mrs. Krueger
in ASB, G-106.
Friday, April 17: Powderpuff Football Game
Time: 7:00PM
Place: King High Stadium

Sign-ups: February 17 – February 24
Description: Powderpuff participants and cheerleaders will be chosen on a first come first serve basis. We will
announce the mandatory practices once the teams are chosen. If you cannot attend these practices, you may be
removed from the team.
Thursday, April 16: Baccalaureate Performance Auditions
Time: 2:45-4:00PM
Place: Choir Room (F-121)
Sign-ups: March 23-27 (During lunch in room G-121)
Description: Students may audition to perform at Baccalaureate. Instrumental/Vocal soloists or groups are
encouraged. Please make sure that your song choice is appropriate for Baccalaureate. See Mrs. Temple in G121 if you have any questions.
April 28-30: Senior Class Meetings & Academic Activities
Time: During the testing window for underclassmen. Schedules will be distributed.
Place: Check-in at the MPR
Description: All Seniors are required to report to the MPR for MANDATORY Senior Class Meetings on all
dates listed above. In order to participate in senior activities, students must have NO failing grades.

Place: Knott’s Berry Farm
Dress: Casual – School Dress Code Applies
Cost: $55
Bring: Lunch Money & Spending Money
On Sale: TBA
Required: Permission Slip and No School Fines
Description: The price includes transportation and entrance into Knott’s. Seniors must have a signed field trip
form in order to purchase a ticket. SENIORS MUST ATTEND THE FIELD TRIP OR REMAIN IN
SCHOOL ON THIS DAY. ALL SENIORS MUST RIDE THE ASSIGNED BUS TO AND FROM
FIELD TRIP SITE. Bus assignments are made when purchasing tickets. Seniors who attend the Senior Field
Trip without riding on the bus will be suspended from school and/or future senior activities.

Time: 7:30 PM – 11:30 PM

$70 with ASB, $75 without ASB + guests from another school

Description: Tickets will be sold at the ASB ticket windows during lunch beginning in April. Refunds will not
be given for any reason. Students wishing to invite an off-campus guest may print a guest waiver form on the
school website. All guest waiver forms are due no later than April 10. All Martin Luther King High School and
RUSD rules and regulations apply to this event. Questions regarding Prom should be directed to Mrs.
VanMeter.
Monday, June 1: Yearbook Distribution
Time: 1:30pm
Place: Multi-Purpose Room
Bring: Student I.D. Card and have all school fines cleared.
Tuesday, June 2: Senior Awards Night
Time: 6:00pm
Place: Gym
Dress: Business casual; school dress code applies
Description: Students to be honored will receive an invitation to attend. Students receiving an award, their
families and friends are encouraged to attend this very special evening of recognition.
June 3-5: Senior Final Exams
Description: Teachers will administer final exams to seniors throughout the week during regular class times
(No half-days for senior finals).
Friday, June 5: Baccalaureate
Time: 6:00pm
Place: Gym
Dress: Business casual with your graduation gown; no caps required. Please, no flip flops.
Description: Baccalaureate is a dignified, non-religious ceremony held in honor of graduating seniors.
Students and parents are encouraged to bring cameras as this is an ideal opportunity in a relaxed
atmosphere for picture taking and celebrating. The Junior Honor Guard will host a reception following the

Monday, June 8: Senior Sunset
Event Time: 7pm for sunset. After sunset to 10:30pm for dance
Place: King Stadium for sunset and F-Quad for Dance
Dress: Casual – School dress code still applies
Cost: $15 pre-sale. Tickets will be sold in ASB. Please listen to announcements for sale dates.
Bring: ID Card
Required: Signed permission slip in order to purchase ticket and no school fines.
Description: Seniors will enjoy one last sunset together in the King Stadium and then boogie on over to the FQuad for a dance and activities in their honor. Questions? See Mrs. Temple in G-121.
Monday, June 8: Commencement Rehearsal #1 & Tuesday, June 9: Rehearsal #2
Time: 8:00am Sharp – No later than Noon.
Place: King Stadium
Dress: Casual – Bring sunscreen and water!
Note: Both practices are mandatory. If you do not show up, you may not walk.
Tuesday, June 9: Senior Commencement
Time: 4:30p.m Gates open for ticket holders. Please do not save seats.
(Eight tickets will be distributed to Graduates at Graduation Rehearsal)
Seniors arrive and meet in the King High Gym at 4:45p.m. (Dressed in Cap and Gown). Commencement
ceremony begins at 6:00p.m.
Place: King High Stadium
Dress: Ladies: Dress or dressy pantsuit, dress shoes. No stilettos, flip flops, or tennis shoes. Low heels are
encouraged for comfort and safety.
Gentlemen: Dress slacks, dress shirts & tie with dress shoes. No flip flops or tennis shoes.
Description: The commencement ceremony will be held at the King High School Stadium. Graduation from
high school is a once-in-a-lifetime event, but participation in the ceremony is voluntary. Martin Luther King
High School’s commencement is known as the classiest, most dignified ceremony in Riverside – one that holds
special meaning for families and graduates. Graduates and the audience, who have long-awaited this day, can
help us maintain the dignity and honor of this special occasion by dressing and acting accordingly.
➢ Seniors must wear the provided cap, gown and medal with NO alterations or accessories. Flower leis,
scarves, and other non-approved items will be confiscated. Any items that are altered (i.e. airbrushing,
glitter, flowers etc.) will be confiscated. If a replacement is not available, you will NOT participate in
the ceremony.
➢ Seniors are NOT to carry articles such as beach balls, purses, air horns, or other nuisance items into the
stadium. All seniors will be SEARCHED prior to participation in the commencement ceremony!
➢ All Seniors will wear a King High School academic medallion. Only students with academic honors or
awards will be allowed to wear honor cords.
➢ Participation in the commencement ceremony is reserved for seniors who exhibit appropriate behavior.
Seniors who initiate or participate in any behavior that disrupts graduation will be escorted from the
field.
➢ Only those seniors who meet all the graduation requirements may participate in the commencement
ceremony. Additionally, all fines must be cleared in order to receive a diploma. All school rules apply!
➢ *Official diplomas will be available for pick up on Wednesday, June 10 from 8am-10am at the flagpole
and from 8am-noon in the counseling office. Please make every effort to pick up your diploma on this
day!
