You Took My Parking Space, cont’d
Later as the congregation prayed, the visitor stood up,
and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars
became visible on his hands and on his feet. Someone
from the congregation noticed him and called out,
“What happened to you?” The visitor replied, as his hat
became a crown of thorns, and a tear fell from his eye,
“I took your place…”

WHY IS AUTHORITY SO IMPORTANT?
Welcome, Visitors!
Thank you for coming to worship with us today. You are
our honored guests. We are a Bible church with Bible aims
relying on God’s word as our only authority We invite you
to join us in worshipping through:
o singing (Eph 5:19)
o praying (I Tim 2:1-2)
o studying (II Tim 4:2 )
o giving (I Cor 16:2)
o remembering our Lord’s sacrifice through
communion (Acts 20:7).
We want to have a record of your visit. Please complete
the visitor’s card that is in the pew before you and place it in
the collection basket or hand it to one of our members.
If we can be of service to you, in any way, please let us
know. And please visit with us again soon. We look
forward to seeing you.
You Took My Parking Space
One day, a man went to visit a congregation. He got
there early, parked his car and got out. Another car
pulled up and the driver got out and said, “I always park
there! You took my place!
The visitor went inside for Sunday school, found an
empty seat and sat down. A young lady approached him
and stated, “That’s my seat! You took my place!” The
visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome,
but said nothing
After Sunday school, the visitor went into the
auditorium and sat down. Another member walked up
to him and said, “That’s where I always sit! You took
my place!” The visitor was even more troubled by this,
but still he said nothing.
Cont’d on back
Brethren, the scriptures are replete with the expressions
of authority or as said in the scriptures "thus says the Lord." As a
rule, such language came from the prophets who were enforcing
and/or revealing the will of God. Jeremiah wrote, "Hear the word
which the Lord speaks to you...Thus says the Lord..." (Jeremiah
10:1-2).
The New Testament is no different, in that it also
requires the recognition of God's authority or what God has said
(1 Thessalonians 5:21; Galatians 1:6-10; 2 John 9-11). Requisite
authority is also indicative of the singularity of God's dealing
with man (cf. Ephesians 4: 3-6; Jude 3). God expressed His will
in three ways to man, by direct command (Acts 2:38), approved
example (Acts 20:7), and necessary inference (Matthew 22:32).
If our religious beliefs and practices are not authorized by direct
command, approved example, or necessary inference, they are
unauthorized and constitute lawlessness (see Matthew7:21-29).
The God of the Bible hates confusion and disorder (1
Corinthians 14:33). While He is a loving God, He is also strict (1
John 4:8; Romans 11:22). God requires our total love (Matthew
22:37). Involved in man's love of God is the keeping of God's
commandments (authority, 1 John 5:3). Those who do not obey,
that is recognize God's infinite authority, are stating with their
actions that they do not love God (John 14:15, 23-24). These are
just a few apparent reasons God views authority as important.
Brethren, the religious world at large has abandoned any
semblance of respect for the authority of God. Authority and
Lordship are tantamount (Luke 6: 46).
