He is regarded to many as a
Canadian folk hero today. He is
also referred to as the “Father of
Manitoba”. However, to some
people he was also referred to as
a traitor. He is referred as one of
the most complex, controversial,
and tragic figures in the history of
Canada. He had two spouses and
two children. He died in
November of 1885.
Louis Riel was a Canadian politician, and
the founder of the province Manitoba. He
was also a leader of the Canadian Prairies.
He was born in October of 1844 in Red River
Colony, Rupert’s Land. He was the oldest of
eleven children. He led two resistance
groups against the Canadian Government.
