“How fast can you grow?” Investigation
Essential Question: How do seeds grow?
Objective: Name the parts of a plant.
Materials: paper plate, sponge, grass seeds, plastic wrap
Directions: Soak the sponge in water and wring it out until it’s damp. Place the sponge on the
plate. Sprinkle it with grass seeds and water. Cover the plate and sponge loosely with plastic
wrap and set the plate in a sunny spot. Sprinkle with water as needed to keep the sponge
slightly damp. Record your observations for five days on the chart below.
