Sponge Lab
Procedure:
1. Weigh the dry natural sponge sample to the nearest
gram and record result below.
2. Weigh the dry synthetic sponge sample to the
nearest gram and record result below.
3. Place the natural sponge into a beaker of water until
fully saturated. Take out, let excess water drip off,
and weigh to the nearest gram and record result
below.
4. Repeat with synthetic sponge.
5. Find the percentage of absorbency for natural
sponge by using the following formula:
(Saturated Mass / Dry Mass) x 100 = %
6. Record percentage below.
7. Repeat to find percentage for synthetic sponge.
