President Stu Snyder called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM following breakout sub-committee
meetings. Introductions were made of those in attendance. The October meeting minutes were
presented and approved. Mr. Snyder reminded teams that $300 in seed money was available for startup money for fundraising projects.
Patti Sheedy, Athletic Director, handed out schedules for Winter Sports and noted there were good
numbers on the first day of tryouts. The sports not in season are in a current two week dead period and
may not practice. She reported on several winter dates that the PH athletic teams would face
conference foes in order to be better prepared for the season end conference tournaments. Ms.
Sheedy announced passes could not be used for the Friday night football playoff game against Forest
Park. A motion was made by Stewart Barnes that the first 200 PH students in attendance be admitted
free of charge and that the funds would be paid for by the PHABA. The motion was seconded by Duke
Baldridge. After discussion, motion passed. Ms. Sheedy reported on the season end for the cross
country, volleyball and cheer. In Cross Country the girls came in second in their conference and ninth in
the region; the boys were third in the conference and eleventh in the region. Andrew Kepley qualified
for the state meet. Volleyball did have one win in the conference tournament. The Cheer squad did not
compete at the conference level but did attend to see where they need to be for the competition. The
tentative date for the Fall Sports Banquet is December 2. The first semester will end on December 19
for eligibility purposes.
Treasurer Stewart Barnes handed out the Financial Reports for Profit and Loss and the Balance Sheet as
of October 31, 2013. Balances are updated nightly for each team’s account and can be received by
contacting him. He reported that the usage of Crouch CPA for accounting and bookkeeping purposes
was going well. The first bill for services for October was $550 and that the scope of services was being
reviewed for the next meeting. Invoices are currently being paid by the bookkeeper and risks have been
substantially reduced. Mr. Barnes reported that the current list of designated funds was in the process
of being reviewed to see if the funds could be reallocated. Mr. Barnes noted that he would be stepping
down as treasurer as of July 1, 2014 and that the position would need to be filled for next year. He said
the job volume has been reduced with the bookkeeper and accounting services now in use. Duke
Baldridge made a motion that the band be paid $1,500 for their services in manning the parking lot for
home football games. The motion was seconded by Jerry Dunnavant and passed. Mr. Barnes concluded
his report by suggesting that the PHABA look into holding a spring golf tournament similar to the one
that Coach Dowdy has held in the past for soccer. Coach Dowdy will be contacted to see if he has plans
for a tournament.
Stacey Ripple, Volunteer Coordinator, reported that each team will need to provide two persons to work
the playoff football game and that band would man the 50/50. Signups for the winter sports’
concessions dates is in progress.
Trudy Brailsford, Community, reported that the honoring of the 40th anniversary state championship
football team had gone well. She reported on two Patrick Henry events: an art show to be held on
November 16 at Black Dog Salvage to benefit the Patrick Henry Outreach Committee and the PH PTSA’s
sponsorship of Johan Khalilian, who would be speaking to all PH students on November 21 on bullying
and drug and alcohol use.
Carol Deyerle, Membership, reported that 196 passes had been sold compared to last year’s 256.
Revenues are at $30,120 including signs and membership. Ms. Deyerle reported for Sandra Kuehn,
Concessions, that Mrs. Kuehn would be moving over items from the outdoor to indoor areas after the
playoff football game.
Stu Snyder, Allocations, reported on several requests. Mr. Snyder made a motion that the girls’ and
boys’ tennis teams contract the use of the practice facility at Ndor Tennis at a cost of $1,400 - $700 per
team - $350 from each team account and $700 from the booster general fund. The motion was
seconded by Stacey Ripple and passed. Mr. Snyder reported on a request from baseball for $7,100 for
sports’ turf for the outdoor batting cage. After discussion on the necessity of the item, the request was
tabled pending further information. Mr. Snyder made a motion for $1,750 to purchase shoes for the
girls’ basketball team - $875 from the team account and $875 from the general fund. The motion was
seconded by Bill Mason and passed. Mr. Snyder made a motion for $3,000 for wrestling for hotel costs
for two out of town invitational tournaments - $1,500 out of team account and $1,500 from the general
fund. Wrestling will need to raise the necessary funds f or their account by June 30, 2014. After

Steve Francis and passed.
New Business: Ms. Sheedy mentioned that an icemaker that makes pea sized ice pellets is needed for
the training room. Estimates are in progress for the new machine. Todd Putney, Roanoke City School
Board Chair, reported on the building of a new fieldhouse for the Patrick Henry Stadium. Mr. Putney
said a targeted amount will be provided from the school system with the balance to come from other
sources. There may be the need for a Capital Campaign for this structure.
The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.
