* This is a flexible course schedule. There will be times when scheduled class activities may be superseded by
other activities, such as the last minute scheduling of a guest speaker. In these cases, you remain responsible for
turning in assigned items on time and for completing assigned readings, even if the assignments are not
discussed in class. It is your responsibility to check your Blackboard site on a frequent basis to ensure timely
receipt of changes to the course schedule.
** Each chapter has end-of-chapter exercises that you are encouraged highly to complete in order to get a better
understanding of the communication concepts covered in the text. Particularly important are:




Each chapter’s section entitled “Improve Your Grammar, Mechanics, and Usage” and the associated
answer keys starting on page AK-1.
The “Handbook of Grammar, Mechanics, and Usage” starting on page H-1.
Appendix A, Format & Layout of Business Documents starting on page A-1.
Appendix B, “Documentation of Report Sources” starting on page A-20.
Each of these will help improve your communication skills and assist you with your performance on your
examinations, your take-home writing assignment, and your oral presentation.
*** Students not attending these guest lectures & student oral presentations, on time and completely, will have
25 points deducted.
