NELLIE ATKINSON CHAIR OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY

The University of Cape Town and the Department of Health of the Western Cape Government invite applications
for the above permanent post of Chair of Radiation Oncology. Radiation Oncology is a division within Radiation
Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital and the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The successful person:
Will be expected to provide leadership in Oncology and to manage its staff, resources and performance.

Will be expected to actively participate in the clinical service, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and
training, and research and promote the multidisciplinary approach to cancer.

Should be a recognised leader in the field of Oncology and should have a record of scholarship and experience
in the areas of clinical service delivery, teaching and training, and research. Expertise in clinical service
delivery includes skills in modern developments in Oncology which are dependent on sophisticated
technologies as well as the use of radiation, chemotherapy and biologically targeted therapies.

Shall have insight into the challenges and opportunities for advancing health care in South Africa and Africa.

Should be committed to the Primary Health Care philosophy and have an outcomes based approach to the
services provided.

Will be expected to be able to attract and develop staff of quality and provide leadership with regard to issues
of diversity, transformation and equity.

Will be expected to be available to be Head of the Department of Radiation Medicine, which is a rotational
appointment.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years registered experience in the Specialty and
hold a qualification that is registerable with the HPCSA.
This permanent post is on the establishment of the University of Cape Town under the Joint Agreement with the
Western Cape Government.
The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is appropriate to the academic and clinical level of Professor
and Head of Clinical Department.
