LECTURER – STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY

The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for the above permanent position in the general field
of structural geology for appointment in 2015.
The successful applicant will join a team of nine full-time academic staff members who have expertise in a wide
range of geological fields. We seek an individual who will establish research collaborations within the department,
the university as a whole, and with outside agencies including industry. The department has a field station,
vehicles to support fieldwork, and is well equipped in terms of analytical facilities. Cape Town is situated in an
area of outstanding natural beauty, with opportunities for field-based structural geology research in the nearby
Cape Fold Belt and beyond. The successful applicant will have a valid driving license, given the requirement to
lead undergraduate field trips.
Requirements:
 A PhD in an appropriate field at the time of appointment.
 A research publication record and demonstrable lecturing ability.
Some teaching experience will be advantageous.
Key responsibilities:
 Developing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in structural geology including fieldwork courses.
 Establishing an active research programme through attracting postgraduate students and research funding
