Data Analyst (2 Positions)
(18 month Contract)

SALDRU is the implementing agency for the National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS) on behalf of The Presidency.
This project tracks and interviews 30,000 individuals on an ongoing basis and conducts in-person interviews with
them at two yearly intervals. The fieldwork is outsourced, but NIDS maintains a full-time staff of about twelve
people and employs up to fifteen part-time staff at any one time. For this exciting project, we require two
Temporary Data Analysts, for period of 18 months, to assist with creating and maintaining public release datasets.
This includes panel data cleaning and analysis. The incumbents will assist with preparing the current and previous
waves for public release and ensuring the sample is valid and reliable within and across waves. We are looking for
naturally curious individuals with a talent for quickly learning new tasks and outstanding attention to detail. They
must also have strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Requirements include:

Hons. Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, IS or related field)

1 -2 years work experience relevant to survey data collection or analysis preferred

Experience of statistical software (STATA, SPSS or R)

Strong interest in household surveys

Experience in working with Access Database would be beneficial

Must be skilled in working with quantitative projects

Good Excel skills

Demonstrated strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate
significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
Working with the Data Quality Manager and Senior Data Analyst, the responsibilities include:

Evaluate output from regular, standardized routines to evaluate sample integrity

Assist with development and implementation of new routines to evaluate sample integrity

Assist with routine tasks to check the accuracy and completeness of data received from field
(questionnaire content)

Maintain and update systems in each wave for software upgrades and questionnaire differences.

Ensure that there is integration between the various systems

Updating previous waves, where necessary, for information learned in current wave

Updating previous waves, where necessary, for new variables created.

Ensure that program files to create derived variables are correct and updated where necessary

Manage mini-projects related to data cleaning. This includes prioritizing tasks and delegating tasks to
students where appropriate

Mentor QC Students to develop programming abilities
The annual remuneration is negotiable between R 146 576 and R 273 260.
