Additional Requirements/Resources Additional Help Available during Teacher Office Hours or by appointment CALCULATORS: Every student should have a graphing calculator for use in class each day, as well as for use with homework. A TI-83 or TI-84 calculator is acceptable. Students may not use TI-89 or higher on assignments. These upper level calculators are symbol manipulators and are only allowed in Calculus and Statistics. Students may rent calculators from the school. The fee is $15 for one semester and $25 for both semesters. If the calculator isn’t returned at the end of the year, a replacement fee will be required. Please see Ms. Grimes if there is a calculator concern. ONLINE TEXTBOOKS: Students may access their book online at www.classzone.com. They will be given a login at the beginning of the year. There are tutorials, games, and practice quizzes in addition to the online textbook and note-taking guide. This is a great resource; however, if there are computer difficulties at home, the students must figure out an alternative. (public library, school library, friend’s house, etc.) Please let me know if there is a concern. CLASS EXPECTATIONS: Every student is expected to be prepared for class each day. That includes textbooks, calculator, notebook, and pencil as well as being an active participant in class. You are also expected to exhibit behavior conducive to learning and follow all the policies and procedures that are stated in your student handbook. MAKE-UP WORK: All pre-assigned work will be due on the day of a student’s return to school. Students with excused absences will be given up to five days to make up assessments that were assigned while you were absent. Assessments must be made up or a zero will result. Students will be responsible for daily work missed; however, daily work will not be counted against them. Assignments will be posted each unit on the school website. www.brookwoodhighschool.net It is the student’s responsibility to speak with the teacher regarding scheduling of make-up work immediately upon returning from an absence. If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, then you will be expected to take that test or quiz during class or after school the day you return. If a student returns from an absence on the day of a test or quiz, and has been present for all of the material assessed on that test or quiz (i.e. having only missed “review”, etc. time), he or she must take the test or quiz as scheduled. HONOR CODE SUMMARY: An essential part of education is developing a sense of honor, responsibility, and citizenship. Selfesteem and self-respect grow from meeting challenges with honesty and individual effort. The Brookwood academic integrity policies are similar to those found at universities. The Honor Code lists Brookwood’s expectations of its student citizens. Cheating includes any attempt to defraud, deceive, or mislead a teacher in arriving at an accurate assessment of student achievement. The Honor Code booklet provides general examples of violations and then explains more specific examples in the categories of homework, tests, research papers, essays, lab reports, and calculators. Sharing calculators during an assessment is considered cheating. Every student is expected to familiarize him- or herself with the contents of the Honor Code and ask for further explanation if necessary. Consequences for violation of the Honor Code can be quite serious and far-reaching.
