Student Training Reports:
AFIT Students attending NPS
OVERVIEW





TRs are issued vice OPRs for those attending in-residence PME and degree-granting academic education programs (AFI 36-2406, Chapter 6)
TRs are documented on AF Form 475
Students attending  18 months will receive 1 TR at the end of their program.
Students attending > 18 months will receive 2 TRs; an Interim TR halfway through Student time, and a Final TR at the end
AFIT’s deadline to AFPC is 120 days post-graduation. The actual time it takes depends on receiving a school degree-posted transcript (DPT).
TR Inputs:








Submit via the AFIT/CI website, www.afit.edu/cip;
Inputs are due 14 days prior to closeout (NPS graduation date, or program completion for DLI and Immersion programs)
Unlike OPRs, TRs need not be top-to-bottom, left-to-right filled in, bullet format. White space is ok. Quality far outweighs quantity.
AFIT periodically receives feedback from the Student MLR/Promotion Board Secretariat that results in format and data changes.
You may find it helpful to draft inputs in Microsoft Word, then copy/paste into the TR database to eliminate timing out.
For NPS, there IS a DG recognition (NPS calls it “with distinction”; it is awarded by School). There is NO order of merit. There are other awards
you can win, and they will be placed in your comments if you provide validation, but none of them count for DG.
Once you have signed in, click "Submit TR Inputs". There are three sections of data:
1. Academic/Training Accomplishments: 15 lines (on the final form). This section in turn can include Mandatory and Optional inputs:
A. (MANDATORY) Standard Inputs:
o
Degree program, Focus area, and Sponsor (if DoD/gov)
o
GPA. For FINAL TR: Enter your last known GPA before graduation. AFIT will verify the Final GPA when they
receive the DPT). For INTERIM TR: for programs that include DLI, enter GPA after your 4 NPS quarters. For
others that require an Interim TR, use the most recently-completed NPS quarter.
o
(Non-thesis) Comprehensive exam pass results (if you passed w/ distinction you can note it here)
o
(Thesis) thesis/project title, abstract, and a short description of relevancy/impact to DoD or AF interests. If you did
not finish, I ***MUST*** have the Extension form with a full justification and signatures.
o
(DLI students) DLI GPA and final DLPT scores; NOTE: it is VITAL that you complete a Transcript Request
from DLI, to send to AFIT. It’s used to complete your TR. Directions on the Outprocessing Checklist.
o
(if no Optional comments submitted): provide a statement that you have nothing additional to add; this gives us
positive confirmation of your intent.
B. (OPTIONAL) Additional Inputs:
o
Some examples of other achievements include, but are not limited to:

Published papers

Key research, projects, or presentations that exceeded normal classroom expectations

Participation in large school events

Awards from NPS, or awards from the last assignment if not on your last OPR

We can also include items from your last unit that took place prior to your departure, but after your last
OPR if you have an LOE for it and provide a copy to AFIT.
o
If you have something you want included, you must provide it, along w/ verification to your Program Manager
(certificates, letters, official e-mail). Otherwise, the standard items will be all that is included.
o
Please provide concise statements/bullets regarding your accomplishments. Use active voice, state what you did
and the impact (i.e., saved $50K, reduced error rate 10%, etc).
o
We cannot include volunteer work, PME-based comments, fitness scores, or other OPR-prohibited comments.
2.
Professional Qualities: 8 lines (on the final form). The first line ("Ratee was geographically separated from evaluator") is mandatory
by AFI. You may include leadership activities related to government internships/experiences performed during your program, positions
held within professional organizations related to your program/career field, Liaison Officer responsibilities, Investigating officer/career
day or other support to local AFROTC or Recruiting Services personnel. Verification documents required for all inputs. This block will
also include a statement about Fitness Program compliance (Meets Standards/Does Not Meet Standards IAW AFI 36-2905)
3.
Other Comments: May be used to list comments provided by an "on-site" source or other agency that are deemed appropriate for
inclusion by the signatory/AFIT policy. Verification documents required for all inputs.
After you click "Submit to your PM", you should notice a pop-up message thanking you for submitting your inputs. If you do not receive it, try
again. If you continue to have problems please contact the AFIT/CIP webmaster for assistance and e-mail your inputs to your program manager.
FAQs:

5.
6.
Q: When do you need my TR inputs by?
A: Since many awards aren't given until graduation, we don't expect them until graduation time. However, please submit prior to departure from
NPS to allow us time to work on drafts and ask questions if we need clarification.
Q: Do you have example TRs or bullets we can use as a template?
A: No, because the Mandatory items are self-explanatory, and the Optional items will be unique to you.
Q: When will my TR show in my records?
A: After NPS graduation, AFIT has up to 120 days to complete TRs and send them to AFPC. The TR is ready before NPS delivers DPTs to
AFIT. Once the DPT is received, and the TR is signed, it will be submitted to AFPC.
Q: I am meeting a board, can my TR be expedited?
A: After we receive the DPTs, all TRs are completed ASAP. We try to accommodate promotion boards as much as possible. It takes time for all
updates to happen and the reports to flow through the system. If you’re meeting an upcoming board, discuss options with the AFIT FS/CC at
NPS. Check your board milestone dates at this link: https://gum.afpc.randolph.af.mil/cgibin/askafpc.cfg/php/enduser/ps_site_map.php?pid=3349&cid1=3355&cid2=3365
Q: My new commander is asking, how do I get a copy of my training report?
A: Unfortunately, AFIT is not permitted to send that directly to you. Once we send them to AFPC, they will include them in your records and
upload them into ARMS for instant access by you.
Q: How does my degree get updated into my records to show my completion?
A: Once we get the DPTs here, the first step we take is to do a letter for each graduate and send it to our coding division here to update your
official AF records. Once they update your records, it will reflect on your SURF.
