PASS Board of Directors Elections: Process for Awarding Seats

PASS Board of Directors Elections: Process for Awarding Seats
There are three full-term (two-year) seats up for election for the 2015 PASS Board of Directors election.
Two are regional seats: One will represent US/Canada and one will represent EMEA (Europe, the Middle
East and Africa). The third seat is an Open seat with no regional restrictions.
The three elected seats on the NomCom have been adjusted to mirror the seats up for regular term
election for the Board of Directors. By aligning the three elected NomCom community seats to match the
Board seats that will be up for election, we hope to help encourage balance, international influence, and
local investment in both the NomCom and the Board elections.
The voting ballot this year will be much the same as previous years: a single ballot listing all candidates.
The ballot will also indicate which seat(s) an individual is eligible to win. For the regional seat, an
individual must reside in a given region in order to be eligible to win that seat*. Anyone eligible to run in
the election is eligible for the Open seat. Community members who are eligible to vote will be granted as
many votes as there are seats up for election and may vote for whomever they choose - they will not be
forced to cast one vote specifically tied to each seat. Once all of the votes are in, the regional seats will
be awarded first, followed by the Open seat and finally followed by any off-term seats (for example if a
Board member does not finish their term and that seat is added to the annual election process).
For example, if the following were the results from the 2015 NomCom election:

Step 3 - If an off-term seat is added to the election (for example, if a current Board member is unable to
finish their two-year term and has communicated this information in time for the seat to be included in
the annual election), then this shortened one-year term seat would be awarded last. In this case, it would
be awarded to Candidate E.

This year the PASS Board is holding the biannual Executive Committee election. This is when the PASS
President, Executive Vice President, Finance and the Vice President, Marketing are elected from current
Board members. If a Board member who is part way through their term is elected onto the Executive
Committee, the remainder of their term is added to the election and will be awarded as per step 3 above.
Any additional off-term seats to be added to this year’s elections will be communicated to the community
in the June 10th Connector.
