RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (PhD Student)

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellowship in affiliation with

Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Dublin (UCD), Cicely Saunders

Institute, Kings College London (KCL) and the Academic Palliative Medicine

Department at Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services (OLHC&S) Dublin.

The Research Team comprises undergraduate, postgraduate and post-doctoral researchers and provides a rich environment to acquire advanced skills in undertaking and progressing biomedical research.

This position is open to candidates with a clinical OR scientific background including

(but not limited to) medicine, nursing, allied health professionals, engineering, neuroscience and information technology (IT).

The successful candidate will work on major translational research projects under the themes of Cancer Symptom Assessment, Cancer Malnutrition, Cancer-related

Fatigue and Mobile Information Technology.

Fellows will also benefit from collaboration with national and international experts in

Dublin Teaching Hospitals, TCD, UCD, and international centres of excellence

(King’s College, London, UK: Mount Sinai, NY, USA).

The successful candidate will be expected to:

1. Register for and complete a PhD (or MD). Funding will be available to support fees, costs and consumables.

2. Commit to a three year Specific Purpose Contract, full-time.

3. Attend research workshops, developmental courses and visiting professor programmes as necessary.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

1. A clinical qualification OR an honours degree in engineering, neuroscience or information technology (or similar; see above)

2. Full registration with relevant professional body if applicable

3. Comfortable participating in clinical research including direct patient contact with seriously ill people

4. Able to work autonomously, managing and reporting on assigned projects

5. Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

6. Good IT Skills

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

1. Masters degree or similar in a health science-related discipline

2. Three years post –graduate experience

3. Experience in clinical research
