INTENSIVE COURSE ON WASTE LAW INCLUDING THE NEW WASTE DIRECTIVE
A one-day intensive course addressing the important issues on waste. The course will be of
particular interest to local authority and Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local
Government personnel, environmental management practitioners, legal practitioners and
persons in the waste industry.
Course Director: Professor Yvonne Scannell
SPEAKERS:
Duncan Laurence worked with the EPA before leaving to establish his own environmental
consultancy. He has written the book Waste Regulation Law (1999) and advices on all
matters relating to waste activities.
Rory Mulcahy is a barrister specialising in environmental and local government matters.
Declan O’Sullivan is a partner in Fehilly Timoney, a leading environmental consultancy. He
has vast experience in preparing waste management plans, obtaining waste licences and
permits and acting as an expert witness in waste matters.
Yvonne Scannell is a professor in Trinity College who lectures on Irish and EU
environmental law and who also works as an environmental lawyer. She is the author of
Environmental and Land Use Law (2006).
Brendan Slattery works as a solicitor specialising exclusively in Environmental law in Arthur
Cox.
Deborah Spence is the environmental partner in Arthur Cox, Solicitors, the leading
environmental law firm in Ireland.

Importance of End- of -Waste Criteria. Judicial decisions

Ownership of Waste
Who owns waste? What are the obligations of ownership?
Why it is important to know who owns waste. Disputes as
