Congratulations to Cherry-Ann Waldron: Many congratulations to Cherry-Ann Waldron who passed her
PhD viva, with minor revisions, on Wednesday 16th November. Cherry-Ann's PhD thesis is entitled:
'Developing and evaluating a web-based risk calculator to predict cardiovascular disease' and she was
supervised by Glyn Elwyn and John Gallacher.
ADMINISTRATION
Undergrad Office move to Cochrane Building: Please note that the Division of Medical Education,
Undergraduate Office will be moving to the 5th Floor of the Cochrane Building. The move will take place on
Tuesday 15th November and as such the Undergraduate Office will not be available on that day.
From Wednesday 16th November 2011, the office will re-open on 5th Floor, Cochrane Building as the
Institute of Medical Education Undergraduate Office.
The following functions and people will now operate from the Cochrane Building 5th Floor, with new
telephone numbers:

The following functions will remain on the Upper Ground Floor of the Main Hospital Building until further
notice: Undergraduate Admissions, C21 team, UPP administration. The Year 1 and 2 administration office
will remain in BIOSI. The Clinical Skills team will be moving on Thursday 17th November to the 3rd Floor of
the Cochrane Building.

Sports and Social Club: Please see below a menu for Sports and Social Club for ordering buffets and
lunch. This supplier can be used as an alternative to Residences and Catering and Jags Catering. Tea and
coffee are charged at 75p per person per serving with a buffet and £1 per person per serving when
ordered without a buffet. Tea, coffee and muffins are £1.95 per person. If you would like further information
please e-mail the e-mail address on the menu. Please note there is a charge of 10% delivery fee.

----------------------------------------------------------School of Medicine PhD Studentship Competition: The School of Medicine is call for applications from
MEDIC Research Institutes for a PhD studentship to start in January 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The funding includes tuition fees at home/EU rates, student’s stipend at MRC rates together with £4,900
towards consumable costs.
Applications should be made on the form below and submitted electronically to Sarah Williams at the PGR
office WilliamsSE9@cardiff.ac.uk
Preference will be given to applicants who can provide matched funding, to interdisciplinary projects and
those with strong translational elements.
Students must be able to commence study on the 1st January 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Karl Hanzel directly with the Audit. The Auditor has now left the site. In general terms he was very satisfied
with our systemic compliance. Karl will be in contact in due course with any findings and implementation
plans in due course.
