Assessing the value of undergraduate research based assessment tasks for
courses at the University of Canterbury
Synopsis of the Project
In this project I intend to explore the value of research based assessment tasks with
respect to the engagement and achievement levels of undergraduate students. Requiring
such work as annotated bibliographies, research proposals, literature reviews and research
projects at the undergraduate level has (in my experience piloting research based
assessment in COMS201) multifaceted benefits, not the least being high levels of
engagement and interest, and the cultivation of an array of practical academic skills.
