September Classes
Figure Drawing
6-8pm Tuesdays, September 16, 23, 30 & October 7, 14, 21
Punchcards: $20/3 classes/student; $30.3 classes/adult; $12/single session
Supplies:
Students should supply their favorite drawing medium(s) and paper for all figure sessions
Floral Watercolor – Offsite at Vander Veer Park
Instructor: Cindy Bergthold
10am-2pm Saturday, September 13
**Class will meet at 10am in the conservatory at Vander Veer Park.
Supplies:
One 8-color set (minimum) Prang watercolors OR watercolors you may already be using in your painting
2 – 3 sheets 22”x30” cold press 140# watercolor paper OR your favorite watercolor paper (paper will be
cut into smaller sheets during class for sketching and painting
1 watercolor board that will fit 11”x15” paper, leaving a 2” border around paper
1 #2 pencil
1 white vinyl eraser or Magic Rub eraser
1 mixing palette (Styrofoam plates are an acceptable substitute)
Stool or portable chair
Small water bucket
1 roll paper towels or clean rag
1 medium/large mop or 1” wide watercolor brush for backgrounds
1 each watercolor brushes: ¼” flat, ½” flat, #4 round, #8 round, #10 round – if you already paint bring the
brushes you use; beginning students – look for prepackaged brush sets with stated or close-to-listed sizes

Rug Hooking – Fall Fun

One 14” heavy-duty/ quality brand quilting hoop or rug-hooking frame
1 pair applique scissors or other sewing scissors
Book Arts – Sculptural Bookmaking

Supplies:
1 pair sharp scissors
1 Xacto (craft) knife
1 5-pack #11 blades
1 15” ruler
1 #2 pencil
1 Magic Rub eraser
Variety of images to cut up for the books (postcards or copies of photographs are a good source)

November Classes
Water Color – Fabulous Florals

6-8pm Wednesdays, November 5, 12, 19 & December 3, 10
Supplies:
One 16 color set of Prang watercolors OR
One tube watercolor each: burnt sienna, permanent rose, alizarin crimson, spring green, Winsor green,
phthalo blue (or Antwerp blue), ultramarine blue, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow medium
Optional tube colors: gamboge or perinone orange, burnt umber, ivory black, titanium white, cerulean blue,
scarlet lake, quinacridone gold, naples yellow
1 plastic mixing palette with mixing center space or 3-4 Styrofoam plates
Two 22”x30” sheets 140# white cold press watercolor paper (Arches preferred)
1 each watercolor brushes: #8 round, 1” bright, ½” bright, ¼” rigger, ½” rigger
Favorite floral photos (references for painting)
1 bottle (small) liquid Friskit or other masking fluid

Printmaking – DIY Techniques

Supplies:
1 piece 5”x7” linoleum (available in art stores)
6 – 10 objects, no more than ½” in depth; e.g., doilies, keys, paper cut-outs, leaves, sticks, and other
interesting objects
Two sheets 22”x30” printmaking paper (Rives BFK, Arches or Stonehenge)
One 2B pencil
One 4B pencil
One 6B pencil
Laserjet/Xerox/Newspaper/Magazine images (as many as you can supply; the older the copy images the
better and non-coated magazine page images are best)
1 large wooden kitchen spoon
1 Chartpak blender marker (available in art stores)
1 roll clear packing tape
Drawing – Starting Point

1 H or HB pencil
1 inexpensive mechanical pencil #2 lead
1 #6B pencil or Ebony pencil
1 medium or had charcoal pencil
1 hand-held pencil sharpener
1 fine point black Sharpie
1 kneaded eraser
1 white vinyl eraser
1 12” ruler
1 pad 90# or heavier drawing paper – 11”x14” minimum (Bristol board, vellum or plate finish, works well)

Calligraphy Workshop · Beg/Int

Saturday, January 17, 10 am-2 pm
**Students should bring a sack lunch
Supplies:
Two 3.5 size black Marvy or other brand felt tip calligraphy markers
2 double-ended calligraphy markers (1 black and one color)
1 each Schaefer or other brand 3 nib calligraphic fountain pen set with ink cartridges
1 each calligraphy practice paper pad and or
3-4 sheets quality writing papers (white or soft colors)
Regular white 8 ½ X 11 computer paper (Bring lots because this is what we will practice on)
Most of all bring a smile and lots of patience with yourself as this is an art where you must practice, practice,
practice
Acrylic Painting: Close-ups in Nature – Beg/Int

One 16”x20” (minimum) prestretched canvas or canvas board
1 Tube each acrylic paint (Golden or Liquitex brands are fine): titanium white, cadmium yellow, cadmium
orange, Hookers green, dioxazine purple, blue – phthalo or ultramarine, naphthol crimson
1 each nylon brushes: 1” or 2” flat, #10 flat, #6 filbert, #8 filbert, #1 round, #3 round, #6 round
1 Small bottle gesso
