c) Report cards – Not much feedback. The Department of Education is changing report
cards for next year. They are streamlining the P-3 curriculum. A teacher from the school
will attend a PD day in order to learn about the changes.
d) The art show was held during parent teacher interviews. There was some feedback
received stating that last years set up was liked better.
e) The Spring Fling will be held on May 30th. The PTA is hard at work planning the event.
Kimberly has offered to look over the menu and to provide feedback. She will contact
Nicole Skidmore, the parent who is organizing the Spring Fling.
f) The new music teacher, Kelly Slade, is working out great. The kids really like her.
g) Take a leader to work day – The president of the airport, Joyce Carter spent the morning
shadowing Mrs. Jones at the school and then Mrs. Jones spent the afternoon at the
airport. Mrs. Jones reports that she learned so much in her time with Ms. Carter. She
had the opportunity to go down the runway, into the control tower, cleared security,
went to the fire station, behind the baggage and saw all of the IT. There are over 5000
employees at the airport and Ms. Carter provides very extensive leadership. Mrs. Jones
got to sit in on a meeting with one of the VP’s and noticed that the issues they discuss
are very similar types of issues that they deal with at the school just on a larger scale.
Mrs. Jones would like to build a strong connection with the airport and hopes to
eventually be able to have kids go on field trips to the airport and may be hold an
airport fair.
h) Outdoor play – After a very long winter they have finally made it back outside. The field
is still too wet for the students to go on.
Morning traffic is going great. They continue to have a teacher presence at the entrance of the
school driveway. Parents are dropping their kids off at the bottom and they are walking up. The
RCMP continues to monitor the speed through he school zone and have been giving tickets
where necessary.
Bus safety – Buses are always an issue with only one adult on board. Mrs. Jones and the
teachers are talking about bus safety with the students, encouraging them to use appropriate
language and to remain seated on the bus. Mrs. Jones reports that there are a lot of issues in
the morning especially on one bus where there have been a lot of substitute bus drivers. Mrs.
Jones will continue to go into classrooms and to talk about bus safety. They are discussing
strategies with students who are complaining about other students behaviour.
Permission slips for field trips – It is getting close to field trip time. HRSB has new permission
slips forms. They are very detailed in terms of the risk that could be incurred by going on the
field trip. Mrs. Jones has asked each teacher to write a nice letter that will accompany the
consent form so that the parents have the opportunity to read about the benefits that their
child will receive from the field trip. They are still in the process of trying to decide what the
grade six field trip will be.
SAC PD day is on May 14th in the evening. Mrs. Jones, David and Kimberly are planning to attend
on behalf of Holland Road’s SAC.
CSI 2014-2015 – This coming Friday, May 15th the staff will be spending their PD day with a
literacy coach. They are preparing to finalize how to measure the reading goal and how to best
collect information. Any new teachers will be updated as they come in. CSI goals are typically
quite similar to other schools.
