Job Title:
STRIVE Youth Support Worker
Responsible to:
Programme Coordinator
Summary of terms and conditions




17.5 hours per week
£7.65 per hour
25 days annual leave plus 12 public holidays (pro-rata) TBA
Contracted to end of March 2016
Purpose of Job:
To work alongside the STRIVE Youth Worker to provide a youth support role to young
people on the programme in (local area/organisation)
MAIN DUTIES:
Programme
1. To work closely with the STRIVE team and local community to recruit young
people for the programme in line with the STRIVE recruitment plan.
2. To provide mentoring support to young people as they move through the
STRIVE.
3. To assist in the delivery and/or oversight of training and programme delivery to
young people including good relations, citizenship, personal development and
employability.
4. To work intensively with young people involved in STRIVE to initiate, develop and
complete a personal action plan.
5. To connect young people with their local communities through engagement with
a range of providers and stakeholders with a particular focus on volunteering,
employers, and education and training providers.
6. To support the monitoring and evaluation of the project to ensure that the
services offered meet the needs of young people.
7. To ensure that all work is underpinned by youth work values and that the young
people are at the core of decisions that affect their lives.
8. To engage with and support the communications strategy for the programme.
9. To work collaboratively with the staff teams across the programme to ensure
standardisation of approach and quality of practice
Administration

To be responsible for maintaining accurate records in line with organisational
policy.
To ensure that all necessary information is recorded and stored appropriately
with respect to confidentiality.
General
1. To work as a member of the STRIVE team and to engage in activities which
promote and develop the Project and the host organisation.
2. To uphold the eight principles of the United Youth programme.
3. To attend relevant training courses and localised meetings as required by the
Programme Coordinator.
4. To liaise with other relevant organisations to ensure breadth of opportunity for
the young people on the programme.
5. To carry out such duties as may reasonably be required of the post holder.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Job Title:

Essential:
Experience
 1 years’ experience working or volunteering with disadvantaged and
vulnerable young people
 1 years’ experience in the delivery of group work programmes either in a paid
or voluntary capacity
Knowledge and Values
 Hold a recognised youth work qualification (or working towards one)
Skills
 Good written and oral communications skills
 An ability to engage with vulnerable young people
Circumstances
 An ability to travel independently throughout NI, ROI. UK or further afield
 Able to work outside normal hours when required.
Desirable:






Knowledge of issues affecting disadvantaged and vulnerable young people
Knowledge of programmes or interventions to assist young people to
overcome personal barriers
Experience of being a ‘NEET’ young person
Commitment to organisational values, principles and to children’s rights
Ability to manage own time effectively
Ability to manage change effectively
