Post-Doctoral Research Associate.
This is a multifaceted post-doctoral opportunity at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of
Psychiatry, for a clinical research-oriented individual to play a role in senior level research
coordination of a follow-up study of children, adolescents, and young adults at familial risk for
depression. The study involves psychosocial-diagnostic evaluations and an experimental
protocol with a psychophysiological component, focusing on emotion reactivity and regulation.
Clinical aspects of the position include the conduct of research interviews with juveniles and
adults, arriving at DSM diagnoses, and providing crisis intervention, as needed. The incumbent
will receive clinical supervision that can be used toward certification. The range of research
opportunities include access to multigenerational, cross-disciplinary databases of psychiatric
diagnoses, indices of emotion reactivity and regulation including psychophysiological data
(EEG, RSA, EMG), candidate genes/markers, ratings of mother-child interactions, and
cognitive, developmental and psychosocial information from various samples. The candidate will
be provided with opportunities to initiate/contribute to scientific publications. For a candidate
trained in the scientist-practitioner model, this is an ideal way to further a research career and
advance one’s diagnostic skills. Requirements are: doctorate in clinical psychology or related
field; at least three years of clinical experience with psychiatric populations and related
standardized diagnostic interviews for youths and adults (preferably in a research setting);
research coordination exposure; and familiarity with the literature on depression. Excellent
communication, problem-solving, organizational and supervisory skills are essential, and
boundless curiosity is highly valued. The position will require time flexibility. Must have USA
work permit. Qualified candidates may submit their CV and three (3) letters of recommendation
via email: To Dr. M. Kovacs at kovacs@pitt.edu or to Dr. M. Kovacs, Childhood Depression
Research Program, 3811 O’Hara Street, 134 Webster Hall, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. The
