Academic Awards
Please list up to four of your most significant academic awards, including the year
received. Please indicate if the award was a school award, or a local, regional, or national
award.
Academic Goals
What academic areas do you anticipate pursuing in college? Describe in detail the course(s) or
teacher(s) that have influenced you to study this discipline and how they have fostered that
interest. If you are undecided on a major, what areas of study attract you and why?
Advanced Credits
List any Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate/Joint- or Dual-enrollment classes you
have taken and describe one significant difference between these courses and the regular classes
offered at your high school. (If you were homeschooled or did not have access to these types of
courses, please describe how you enhanced your academic curriculum.)
Community Service
Please list your primary extracurricular and community service activities. Describe one
community service activity that you have participated in and how your experience has expanded
your view on a particular social issue.
Independent Research
Please describe in detail an independent research project or creative work you have completed
and what you learned during the process.
Leadership
Define leadership in your own words. Describe one significant leadership experience you have
had and how your leadership impacted others.
Letter of Recommendation
The Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious academic award at Georgia State
University, offered to seven to nine students every year. Please choose a recommender who can
speak primarily to your past and potential academic achievement, in addition to your experience
and/or potential in leadership, community service, and independent research (i.e. teacher or
high school counselor). Please have the recommender you designate below email their letter as a
word or pdf file (on official letterhead, if possible) to scholarshiprecs@gsu.edu. Note: The
deadline for submission of letters of recommendation is January 16, 2016.
Please provide the name, title, and email address of the person whom you have elected to write
a letter of recommendation on your behalf.
