The parade will be televised by SMSU Radio/TV students over the local cable TV system.
Please provide us with some brief statements for announcers to use as you go through
the parade route. The statement might include the goals or purposes of your
organization, special events that you host or co-sponsor, national affiliations, etc.
Anything over a 20-second read is subject to editing.

HOMECOMING PARADE CONTRACT
TIME OF EVENT- The Southwest Minnesota State University Homecoming Parade will take place
Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 11:00 A.M.
SET UP- All participants are required to be completely set up and in their designated position by
11:00 a.m. Line-up will begin at 10:00 a.m. Enter and register at Jewett Street & E. Lyon
Street coming from the North or East.
PARKING- Off-site parking will be available for participants only. No cars can be parked on the
parade route or in any “no parking zone.”
DISPLAYS AND DECORATIONS- All displays and/or decorations will be the responsibility of
the participant. The participant acknowledges that Southwest Minnesota State University does
not maintain insurance covering participants’ property. The participant acknowledges that it is
their sole responsibility of the participant to obtain business interruption and property damage
insurance covering any and all losses by participant. All units must be flame retardant.
DISTANCE- All entries are expected to keep pace with the parade flow and allow reasonable
distance between units.
SPACE REQUIREMENTS- The participant must fit their complete unit in their assigned space.
No additional space is provided.
UNIT LOCATION- Southwest Minnesota State University will do its best to accommodate all
requests for unit location; however, there are many variables that go into mapping the parade
line-up and route. Southwest Minnesota State University makes no promises as to the location
of participant unit space and reserves the right to change the location of the unit if necessary.
UNIT CONTENT- All items must be handed to the parade spectators. All items must be suitable
for a family audience. DO NOT THROW items.
SPOTTERS- If a participant is handing out items; there must be a spotter on each side of the
unit. This will prevent people from coming towards the parade unit.
UNIT PARTICIPANTS- Participants of the parade must be dropped off at the designated
parking. No one will be allowed to drop off participants at the unit location in the parade lineup,
for safety reasons.
ANIMAL UNITS- All animal units are required to provide their own cleanup.
CONDUCT- Participant agrees to conduct themselves in an orderly manner in full compliance
with applicable laws and regulations. All participants are required to act appropriately and
responsibly.
IDEMNIFICATION- To the extent permitted by law, participant hereby agrees to protect,
indemnify, defend and hold harmless Southwest Minnesota State University Homecoming Parade
and their respective volunteers against all claims, losses or damages to persons or property and
costs (including reasonable attorney fees), arising out of or connected with the event, including
but not limited to, the set-up, removal, maintenance, occupancy or use of parade route or a part
thereof, by participant, except those claims arising out of the sole negligence or willful
misconduct of the Southwest Minnesota State University Homecoming Parade.
