Directions for Receiving and Inventorying Literacy By 3 Resources
This shipment will contain the Classroom Collections for Grade PreK and Dynamic Personalized
Libraries for Grade 4 and 5.
Grade PreK: Each Classroom will receive 1 - PreK Collection that contains 125 English titles in 2
cartons. In addition, Bilingual and Dual Language Classrooms will receive 1 Spanish Collection that
contains 50 titles. Also, Classroom Tubs (2) will be packed in 1 carton.
Grades 4 and 5: Each classroom will receive 264 titles that will be packed in 5-6 cartons and
Classroom Tubs (6) that will be packed in 2 cartons. Also, Bin Labels are packed in the “OPEN ME
FIRST” carton for each classroom.
All cartons will be labeled with the following information and will be color coded by grade and
indicate the Classroom A, B, C, D, etc.

Ships in 8 Cartons
1. Look for the carton with the pink neon label marked “Packing List”. This is the carton with the
packing slip. There should be one packing slip per classroom collection (not one per carton).
2. Look at the carton count on the packing slip and verify that the # of cartons on packing slip
equals # of cartons physically received.
3. Look at cartons that have an ISBN on the outside of the shipping box and check those off your
packing list first. Those should denote full cartons and the carton should not need to be
opened to check-in the order (prepacks and collections).
4. Report any discrepancies to HISDinquiry@scholastic.com. Please be sure to include your
order reference # and school name.

Once cartons are placed in each classroom, please look for the carton marked “Open Me First”. In
this carton you will find the individual Book List and Bin Labels for each classroom library.
Invoices Returned to the Elementary Curriculum and Development Office
Please identify a staff member to receive and inventory all of the Scholastic book orders. Please
make sure every carton is inventoried upon arrival. We want to make sure that each teacher and
campus received their books and that HISD can account for the funds spent. Please do the
following:




Make a copy of this document and the attached document to check in the cartons.
Use these as a resource when and if needed to account for cartons received or not received.
Create a system or way to account for all of the cartons being checked into the campus. You
want to be able to show that you received or did not receive cartons/books.
Keep the copies of your check in documents (inventoried and signed) all together.

Enlarging Classroom Libraries or Getting More Libraries
If you have had to add on classrooms, please understand that the school will be responsible for
