Application and Official Guidelines for Contestants Participating in the
Mr. and Miss Dance Marathon Pageant
The Mr. and Miss Dance Marathon Pageant was established at Florida International
University is to raise funds and awareness for the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation
and the Children’s Miracle Network. The winners of the event will set an example for the
entire FIU community and aid in the efforts of Dance Marathon 2011. They will represent
what Dance Marathon is all about and embody, “DM, for the kids!”
Founded on the University's 25th anniversary, Dance Marathon is entering its 14th year of
raising funds for Miami Children's Hospital Foundation (MCHF). Nationally, planning and
implementation of local DMs is proved by the Children's Miracle Network (CMN). The
funds raised at each site benefit the local community as the money goes to the local
CMN hospital- Miami Children's Hospital. This is a 25 hour event that brings together the
entire FIU community. Over 250 students stay on their feet participating in the Nation's
largest student-run philanthropy. At FIU, it is a fundraiser that takes an entire year and a
committee of some 60 students to plan and implement.
The 2011 “Mr. and Miss Dance Marathon” Pageant winners will be named honorary
Morale Captains at DM 2011, receive a personal Miami Children’s Hospital tour, and be
recognized on the official event t-shirt.

All applications are due Monday, January 17 by 5pm in GC 242 (CLS) or GC 2210 (DM

IMPORTANT DATES

ROUNDS
Round 1- In spirit of this year’s Toy Story theme, contestants must create a homemade
costume that reflects their personality and resembles a Toy Story character as it applies
to DM.
Round 2- Talent: All contestants will have the opportunity to showcase a personal
talent. Contestants may sing, dance, draw, read an original poem, or play an
instrument, for example. The first elimination will take place after this round.
Round 3- Question: Each finalist will be asked a question relating to DM and/or personal
goals.
Judging & Audience Vote- Each member of the audience will have one vote to help
name the 2010 Mr. and Miss DM. Audience votes will count for 50% of the total scores (1
vote= 1 point). The other 50% will be based on judge’s scores. Judging will be based on:
Creativity, personality, commitment to and representation of DM throughout the three
rounds.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Contestants must be currently enrolled as an FIU student for a minimum of 6 credits
(undergraduate) or 3 credits (graduate).
2. Contestants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.25 for all
hours earned while enrolled at FIU.
3. Contestants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university.
4. Must be available the weekend of Dance Marathon, January 29- January 30th, 2011.

IV. Applicant Agreement:
