EARLY JUNE NEWSLETTER 2012
Principal’s Message
June has arrived and we have so much still
to learn. Although June is a busy month we
are reminding students that this is when
they need to really focus and demonstrate
the knowledge and skills they have
developed in their daily classroom work,
assessments and home assignments. It is
a time to celebrate student THINKING,
COMMUNICATING AND ACTING.
As reflective thinkers we have asked
students not just to excel academically, but
to be social activists when they are making
wise choices by caring for the students in
their classes, school and in the local and
global communities.
Mrs. Juthiher Gladstone, a teacher volunteer
who has given hours of her time to work with
young student readers as well as teaching the
Grade 4 and Grade 5 students during our
recent E.Q.A.O. assessments.
Ian Marshall, Emma Murphy, Alex Virtue,
Victoria Kellar, Bianca Goncalves, and Luke
Edwards Co-Operative Education students
from Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School
who are working daily in the classrooms to
assist students with their learning.
Mrs. Sonya Crook, Mrs. Gloria Vella Bowry,
Mrs. Nicole Pilgrim and Mrs. Michelle Iliescu –
Grade One parents who co-ordinated the
reception for the First Communion celebration.
Congratulations to:
Thank you to parents/guardians for the
support to help your children’s growth,
academically, spiritually, physically and
emotionally. Please help us to keep the
students focussed on learning during this
busy month of June.

SAFE AND CARING SCHOOL
CODE OF CONDUCT – DRESS CODE
(page 6)
Thank you to students who come to school
each day “dressed appropriately for positive
Christian learning and working environment.”
T-shirts, pants, capris and skirts or shorts that
are at least mid thigh in length, are the best
choices for school summer wear.
Students are to proceed directly home and
return prior to the end of lunch recess.
Signing Students In and Out
Reminder that if a student is signing out of
school for an appointment, or leaving early for
the day, that student must be signed out by a
parent/guardian.
Volunteers (page 8)
Please note that all volunteers and supervisors
for all trips and school activities are required to
have a current Criminal Background Check on
record with the school prior to their
participation in any school event.
Parents/Guardians are able to obtain a
Criminal Background Check through the local
police for a minimal cost.
Criminal Background Checks for Parent
Volunteers – Information from our Board
The Board requires that parent volunteers
produce Criminal Background Checks.
Recently the RCMP has changed the
screening criteria for Vulnerable Sector Checks
such that it can take a significant amount of
time to complete the screening process. This
can result in a delay of several months before
a Criminal Background Check can be
produced. If you anticipate that you would like
to serve as a volunteer in our school, or be a
chaperone for a school activity, you are
encouraged to initiate the process as soon as
possible in anticipation of a possible delay.
Thank you in advance.
Thank you to all parents/guardians for helping
make Mother Teresa a safe caring school.
Students are reminded that due to the
amount of daily physical activity outdoors
and in the gym, that they should always
have running shoes at school.

recently been notified that she has also been

solving occurred.
School Organization 2012-2013
The staff is beginning to plan for the 2012 –
2013 school year.
With Ministry of Education Budget cuts and
declining enrolment, there are impacts that will
affect each school in our board. Unfortunately
Mother Teresa Catholic School will have
changes as well. They are:
The good news for our school community is
that our Kindergarten numbers are continuing
to grow. At present we have 30 students
registered for Junior Kindergarten for 2012 –
2013. As well we are beginning to have new
families register from the subdivision,
Woodhaven, which will also help our
enrolment.
So, as we finish this school year, although we
are experiencing staff cut backs at present, we
are hoping for a new school year of much
success with its challenge. If a family has
specific information that needs to be shared
about their son or daughter for September
2012, parents are asked to communicate that
in writing by Friday, June 15, 2012.
Class placement information will be available
for each Grade 1 – 8 student on Friday, August
31st, 2012 in the school’s front foyer. This
process has worked effectively in past years.
