EARLY JUNE NEWSLETTER 2013

Principal’s Message

June has arrived and we have so much still to learn. Although June is a busy month we are reminding students that this is when they need to really focus and demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed in their daily classroom work, assessments and home assignments. It is a time to celebrate student THINKING, COMMUNICATING AND ACTING.

As reflective thinkers we have asked students not just to excel academically, but to be social activists when they are making wise choices by caring for the students in their classes, school and in the local and global communities.

Thank you to parents/guardians for the s upport to help your children’s growth, academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally. Please help us to keep the students focussed on learning during this busy month of June.

Thank you to students who come to school each day “dressed appropriately for positive Christian learning and working environment.”

T-shirts, pants, capris and skirts or shorts that are at least mid thigh in length, are the best choices for school summer wear.

Students are reminded that due to the amount of daily physical activity outdoors and in the gym, that they should always have running shoes at school.

Signing Students In and Out

Reminder that if a student is signing out of school for an appointment, or leaving early for the day, that student must be signed out by a parent/guardian.

Grade 3 and 6 students have completed the E.Q.A.O Provincial assessments for reading, writing and mathematics. Both the grade 3 and 6 assessments are based on the Ontario curriculum expectations for Grade 3 and Grade 6 and should reflect students’ learning throughout the

Primary and Junior Divisions.

Thanks to all students and staff for their flexibility during this process

In September 2013, parents and students will receive the results of these assessments.

O.F.I.P. Tutoring Programs

Our O.F.I.P. Tutoring Programs, supported financially by the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, are now completed. We are very pleased with the success of the programs.

☺ – Grade 3

Thank you to all Grade 3 and 6 students who attended these after school camps and the staff who ran the events. Great problem solving occurred.

School Organization 2013-2014

The staff is continuing to plan for the 2013 – 2014 school year.

With Ministry of Education Budget cuts and declining enrolment, there are impacts that will affect each school in our board. Unfortunately Mother Teresa Catholic School will have changes as well. They are:

Mrs. Peggy Sheridan, .5 secretary, has been declared surplus at Mother Teresa Catholic School and has been transferred to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School. Mrs. Sheridan, an exemplary staff member who has worked in the office at Mother Teresa Catholic School for 10 years, will be greatly missed by all students, staff and parents that she supported in her competent, professional manner.

Ms. Alison Bogle, classroom teacher, has also been declared surplus to our school. Ms. Bogle, who has been on a leave of absence this year, has blessed Mother Teresa Catholic School with her creative higher order ______ goals for all her student.

Ms. Bogle is also to be thanked for helping our school community come to value our Canadian

Heritage in a special way. Ms. Bogle has recently been notified that she has also been transferred to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School.

Mrs. Sheridan and Ms. Bogle thank you for your years of giving to the Mother Teresa Catholic

School -- Our loss is St. Marguerite Bourgeoys gain.

The good news for our school community is that our Kindergarten numbers are continuing to grow. At present we have 30 students registered for Junior Kindergarten for 2012

– 2013. As well we are beginning to have new families register from the subdivision, Woodhaven, which will also help our enrolment.

So, as we finish this school year, although we are experiencing staff cut backs at present, we are hoping for a new school year of much success with its challenge. If a family has specific information that needs to be shared about their son or daughter for September 2012, parents are asked to communicate that in writing by Friday, June 15, 2012.

Class placement information will be available for each Grade 1 – 8 student on Friday, August 31 st ,

2012 in the school’s front foyer. This process has worked effectively in past years.
