Dove and Owl
Summer Term 2nd Half
Teachers: Mrs Waite and Miss Leonard.

Welcome Message:
Welcome back and the second half of the summer term. We have another very busy half term ahead.
We hope this letter will give you a flavour of what your child will be doing over the next few weeks.
Thank you to all those parents who visited our classes last term.
We are also looking forward to Sports Day in July. Our seaside trip to Southend is on Thursday 9th July
– Don’t forget to book your child’s seat for the trip.
Curriculum covered this half term:
Maths :
In maths lessons we will be
reading and writing 2, 3, and 4
digit numbers, describing and
extending number sentences. We
will be practising and improving
our addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division through
problem solving.
Estimating and rounding numbers,
partitioning 3 and 4 digit numbers.
We will be revising telling the time
and solving problems involving
money.
We will also be teaching some of
the weaknesses we have found
during the SATs tests.
English:
This half term we will be
continuing with the language
and literacy program. Our fiction
theme will be fantasy worlds and
our non fiction theme will be
information texts. Through this
unit we will be drawing links
between texts and exploring the
features of different fantasy
settings. We will be building
towards writing our own fantasy
story set in space. We will also
cover the skills of proof reading
and editing work.
Children will look closely at the
features of information texts.
Science:
Humanities:
PE:
We will be following the Val
Sabin games scheme.
We will be practising our
throwing, catching, aiming and
hitting skills and inventing our
own games.
ICT:
RE:
PSHE:
We will be learning about the
features of the seaside
ready for our seaside trip to
Southend - On Sea in July.
We will be learning about
creatures that live in the sea.
We will also be learning
about the history of visiting
the seaside.
We will continue our learning
about the importance of
belonging.
Our topic this half term will be
plants. During this topic we will be
observing closely using simple
equipment. Children will also have
the opportunity to observe how
bulbs grow into mature plants.
We will work on recognising that
questions can be answered in a
range of ways.
Children will also learn to gather
and record date to help in
answering a question.
During this topic we will aim to
spend lots of time exploring our
science garden and planting
seeds.
Our ICT topic is computer programming.
The children will be following Esspresso
coding unit 2B an online scheme of work
that teaches them how to program a
simple algorithm (computer code) using
buttons and instructions
Our topic is ‘Changes’. We will be
exploring how to change our
behaviour and how we can make
choices about our behaviour. The
children will also be completing
four lessons of ‘drugs education’
Art:
The children will be creating pictures and drawings of the
seaside, making patterns with shells, and making a working
model of a lighthouse.

Staff training:
Please continue to listen to your child read at
home as well as practising their number bonds,
times tables and spellings.
From time to time all staff are out of class to attend
courses.

Topic Plants
Mrs Waite will be out of class every Tuesday
Mr Berryman and Mr Collins will be teaching
Dove Class.

and literacy.

Miss Leonard will be out of class
one day a fortnight starting on Wednesday
10th June, then Tuesday 23rd June etc.
Ms Mazhar will be teaching Owl Class.
Trips out / Visitors in:
We will be visiting the seaside (Southend on
Sea) on the Thursday 9th July. More informationR
to follow.
Homework:
Both classes give out spellings on Tuesdays
sometimes Wednesdays. They will be tested on
the following Monday. Please also help your
child with their number bonds/times tables and
their reading.
Reminders, eg PE Kit, and attendance:
P.E. days are Thursday for Dove and Wednesday
for Owl. Please remember to send your child
with the appropriate kit on these days.
Lost Property
The lost property box in the KS2 hall is very full.
Can you please check to see if any of your
child’s property is inside.
