Spain 2016 Tour
March 7 – 21, 2016
The Point Grey Music Department is planning a major trip to Spain for spring 2016. Any of the senior ensembles
will be eligible to travel provided we have the numbers to support taking the group. The eligible traveling groups
will be Symphonic Band, Jazz A, Jazz B, Chamber Choir, Senior Concert Choir, Vocal Jazz and Senior Strings. The
proposed dates of the trip are March 7 – 21, 2016. This is the last week before spring break and therefore students
would only miss one week of school.
A detailed itinerary will be posted on-line, but we will spend the first seven days in and around Madrid and the final
seven in and around Barcelona. There will be many opportunities for performance and sharing music, as well as
touring the cities and experiencing a completely new culture. We have secured opportunities at several music
conservatories where our students will have the opportunity to perform for and interact with other musicians their
age.
International touring is an excellent experience for the students, giving them the opportunity to perform overseas in
different venues and with groups from other countries. While students may be able to travel to Europe on their
own in the future or with their family, touring with a large close knit group of students is an experience that cannot
be replicated outside of the school environment. As many of our students have said in the past, the international
music tours are life changing events that will be fondly remembered for years to come. Based on past experience
touring to Europe, we are confident that it will be an outstanding experience for your son or daughter.
Our travel agent, Wendy Perkins, has been working on the itinerary and estimates the cost of the trip at $4600. The
final price will depend on the number of students that sign up, as well as airline prices and the state of the Canadian
dollar. A deposit of $500 is due on June 4 2015. If we have enough to students to make the trip viable, this amount
will be non-refundable and will be used to secure air space for the group. An additional $55.00 is required to cover
travel insurance. This will also be non-refundable if the trip is a go. A copy of the students passport must
accompany the deposit.
There will be an information meeting for parents and students on Monday, May 25 at 8 pm in the auditorium. Our
travel agent will be there to go over the itinerary in detail as well as to answer any questions you might have.

The final balance will be due on January 6, 2016. We will set up a payment plan options that
we will post once the tour is a go.

Passports:
Each student needs a valid passport that expires no sooner than 6 months from the RETURN date of the
tour. Please start to get passport information/application organized NOW as it can take months to process a new
application.
 Passenger name error administration fee $350.00.
 Name on Passport must match name and airline ticket.
