Dear Parents
This term has been incredibly busy and productive for the children here at St. Kenneth’s with
lots of learning in and out of school taking place.
Reporting
Today our Learning Journals and end of term reports will go home to you. These will help
you to see how much and how well your children have progressed across this term and
academic year. Please invest time talking with your children about their progress, their
areas of strength and the areas they need to work on and improve next session. This, along
with the support they receive from the staff here at school, will help ensure our children focus
on the areas that will improve their learning and help them to fulfil their potential. Please
return Learning Journals and complete & return your response to the end of term report by
Friday 13th June.
Staffing for next session
I am still waiting for the staffing to be confirmed for our school from the authority. As soon as
I have this confirmed I will let you know the classes and teachers for next session.
Sports Day
Our Sports day is on Wednesday 11th June at 1:00pm. We are looking forward to you
coming along and supporting and encouraging our children in their sporting activities. There
may even be an opportunity for our parents and grandparents to get involved too! Can I also
remind you that the Parent Council are looking for donations of cake and candy (on the day),
wine and tombola prizes (as soon as possible). Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Tickets for tea /coffee and raffle for sports day are on sale now for £1.00 each from the
school office. Please keep your fingers crossed for good weather! If sports day should be
rained off on Wednesday 11th June we will plan to have our sports day on Wednesday 18th
June. Please look out for text alerts this Wednesday which will keep you informed of
cancellation (please note that on Wednesday 11th June if sports day is cancelled due to
poor weather, donations of cake & candy will still be on sale in the school hall so that your
home baking does not go to waste).
Milk
Regrettably on a couple of occasions recently, the milk delivered for our children has been
stolen from the playground before the start of the school day. We're working closely with the
police on these unfortunate incidents and I'd ask anyone who has any information to contact
them please by calling 101.
World of Work Day
On Friday 13th we have our World of Work day. We have a number of speakers from a
variety of careers coming to share their knowledge, experience and skills with our children.
This provides a great glimpse for our children into the world of work and promotes ambition
and aspiration for them. Thank you particularly to the parents and friends of St. Kenneth’s
who have offered their time and support.
School staff Car Park
As a school, we work hard to ensure that our children get the best education possible. In
order to achieve this, we often have to work with a range of partners, for example the School
Nurse, the Speech and Language Therapist and Specialist teaching staff. These partners in
our pupils’ education come in to school at different times throughout the school day. It has
become apparent that lately, these essential staff members are finding it difficult to get into
our car park due to parents dropping off and collecting children. Can I politely ask parents
not to use our staff car park so that these staff members are not held up in the car park and
that we are maximising their time and expertise working with our children. Thank you for
your understanding in this.
Primary 7 Leavers’ Mass
Our primary 7 Leavers’ Mass will be held on 26th June at 10:00am in Ss Kenneth’s &
Bernard’s Church. All parents from our school are warmly invited along to celebrate the
achievements of our Primary 7 children as they move on to High School. This is a key event
for P7 parents. Check you’ve got the date in your diary and I look forward to you joining us
for this Mass that our P7 children have organised and will lead. Prize Giving will follow
directly after Mass in the Church.
Confirmation, First Communion and a visit from the new Archbishop!
This Saturday, 14th June, at Ss Kenneth’s & Bernard’s Church at 6:00pm, Archbishop Leo
Cushley will come to Confirm and provide First Communion for The Primary 4 Children from
our school and St Patrick’s primary school who have been working towards these
sacraments. After this special Mass, Parents, families and parishioners are warmly invited
back to the school for tea, coffee and cakes. I do hope that you will come along and support
this special event in the life of our children, our school and our parish. Again, I would
appreciate any donations of home baking for this event.
I’ve provided a list of important dates for your diary for the final weeks of this term.
As always I thank for your support.
Yours sincerely
Fraser Gillan
