Newport School District is seeking applications for the following classified positions:

21st CCLC Academic Coach
hours per week – 22 hours per week

Summary of Assignment:
The 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) Academic Coaches will be responsible for implementing program
activities as directed by Site Coordinators and Program Director. The CCLC Academic Coaches will provide effective and
quality instruction to students in the CCLC program and coordinate activities with the school program. Academic
Coaches will participate as requested in family literacy/engagement activities. In addition, academic coaches will
participate in professional development activities aimed at improving effective implementation of curriculum and CCLC
goals. The CCLC academic coaches will supervise students and student activities.
Performance Responsibilities:
 Responsible for providing quality instruction and enrichment activities, daily activities, and special events in the
CCLC program.
 Work closely with school site coordinators and classroom teachers to implement an effective CCLC program.
 Work with classroom teachers and volunteers to enhance the CCLC program.
 Implements activities that are aligned to the goals of the CCLC program.
 Foster the development of family-school-community relations.
 Play a strategic role in monitoring and increasing student achievement and in meeting CCLC program goals.
 Participates in family engagement activities including parent nights and family showcase events.
 Assist in the evaluation of the 21st CCLC program within assigned school.
 Must submit timely reports as requested to Site Coordinators and Project Manager.
 Gather student grades, missing assignments and data in order to effectively assist students during afterschool
tutoring.
 Assist in coordinating needed supplies, materials, equipment, and transportation requests.
 Make phone calls, schedule conferences with parents to recruit student and family participation, assess needs
and share progress.
 Must attend scheduled CCLC program meetings and trainings as required and requested.
 Must conduct student activities, including academic and enrichment instruction.
 Performs other related duties as requested.
Qualifications:
 Must favorably pass the Adult Basic Literacy Exam.
 Must meet No Child Left Behind requirements:
A.
Associate’s Degree or higher in related or comparable field (Applicant will need to provide copies of
transcripts documenting award of degree); or
B.
Must have passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment. Applicants may schedule testing through the
District Office.

Experience with tutoring, academic, 4-H or counseling programs preferred.
Willing to work as a member of a team.

Ability to organize and keep accurate records.
Data entry skills/computer knowledge preferred.

Be able to energize students and families to participate in program and ability to relate well with students.
Experience in working with and understanding the needs of the targeted student population and their families.
Ability to maintain a safe afterschool learning environment.
Have a personal commitment to CCLC program goals.
Be willing to work flexible hours due to overall programs needs and family engagement activities.
Must favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
Terms of Employment: Position is 4 hours per day, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and an additional 2 hours per week for a total
for 22 hours, Monday – Friday varying and flexible hours based on program needs. This is a 180-day position, during the
school year, and a 4 week summer program. Salary is based on PSE contract. Position is contingent on grant funding.
