Problem-Solving Challenge 1
Radioactive Isotopes

In the centre of the circle is a silver bucket
containing deadly radioactive isotopes.
 You must work as a team to lift the bucket
and tip the isotopes into the black safety
bucket.
 You are not allowed to enter the radioactive
zone (marked out) so the only way you can lift
and tip the bucket is to use the ropes
attached.
Problem-Solving Challenge 2
Leaky pipe





Stay in your 2 teams.
First fill your bucket with water.
Each team will have a pipe with a table tennis
ball inside. You must work as a team to fill the
pipe with water and collect the ball from the
top.
There will be a short distance between the
pipe and the bucket.
You cannot tip the pipe upside down!
Problem-Solving Challenge 3
Cross The Swamp




Your group will split up into two teams.
Each team will be given equipment that they can use
to get themselves across the poisonous swamp.
Each team must work together to ensure that every
member of the team gets safely across, and that all
the equipment gets across too.
Whilst crossing the swamp you must follow these
rules: you cannot throw equipment on the floor (it will
be taken off you) and members of your team must
not allow any part of their body to touch the floor (the
whole team will have to start again if this happens).
Problem-Solving Challenge 4
Line Up
Your group needs to split into three
equal teams.
 Each team will have a bench. They
should stand on the bench and then
follow the leader’s instructions.
 No-one can step down off the bench
until they have completed the task.

Communication Challenge 1
Centipede

The group will be split into teams of 4.
 Each team will have 2 planks that have
ropes tied to them.
 The challenge is to have every member of
the team standing with one foot on each
plank, and then to walk as a team to the
finish line.
 No member of the team may touch the
floor.
Communication Challenge 2
Blindfold Obstacle Course
For this challenge, you will work in
pairs.
 One of you will be blindfolded. Your
partner must lead you safely around the
course.
 Whilst you are leading think about the
type of communication you are using.

Communication Challenge 3
Call your partner
Your group will split into pairs.
 One of the pair will be blindfolded.
 Using appropriate and agreed on
communication, you need to direct your
partner towards you.
 Your partner cannot take off their
blindfold until they reach you.

Communication Challenge 4
Square Dance

Your group will work together on this
challenge.
 Each member of the group will be blindfolded
and asked to hold on to part of a long rope.
 Without removing your blindfolds, you need to
organise yourselves into a square.
 When you think you’ve finished, lay the rope
on the floor and take off your blindfolds.
Physical Challenge 1
Orienteering
You will work with a partner to find your
way around the school site.
 Using a map, you will find the controls
(marked as a red circle on your maps).
At each control there will be a question
to answer.
 You must write down the answer on
your sheet next to the correct number.

Physical Challenge 2
Get knotted!

Your group will split into 4 equal teams.
 Each team will be given a short length of
rope.
 Your task is to tie as many knots in the rope
as you can in one minute. After that time you
will swap your rope with another team.
 The challenge is to see which team can untie
all the knots in their rope first.
Physical Challenge 3
Group Sit
The group should stand in a circle.
 Everyone needs to turn so they are
facing the same way.
 On the word ‘Go’, everyone sits on the
knees of the person behind them.
 You need to work together, otherwise,
you’ll fall over!

Physical Challenge 4
Hoop Race





Your group will be split into two equal teams.
Each team will be given a hoop.
Form a circle and hold hands. One pair lets
go and has a hoop placed over one arm
before joining hands again.
The challenge is to move the hoop around
the circle without any person letting go of the
hand they are holding.
This is a race!
Physical Challenge 5
Rope Run





Two people need to turn the rope.
Each member of the group takes it in turn to
run under the rope whilst it’s turning to the
other side.
Then do this in pairs, linking hands.
Then in 4’s, 8’s and then the whole group.
Consider how you are going to get everyone
to run at the same time.
