U komt aan bij Leiden station of
u begint bij de 1. Stationsweg.
Loop rechtdoor en u vindt aan
uw linkerhand 2. Stadscafé van
der Werff en rechts Rijksmuseum
Volkenkunde. Sla rechtsaf en u
komt uiteindelijk bij 3. Molen de
Put. Deze dankt zijn naam aan
Jan Janzoon Put, die in 1619 een
molen op het bolwerk aan de Rijn
bouwde. Aan de overkant, in de
Weddesteeg, is Rembrandt van
Rijn geboren. Hier vindt u ook het
4. Rembrandtpark. Zodra u weer
terug loopt naar de Witte Singel
komt u bij de 5. Universiteitsbibliotheek. Aan het Rapenburg vindt u
het V. Academiegebouw. Dit is het
oudste gebouw van Universiteit
Leiden. In het Academiegebouw
zit tevens het 7. Academisch Historisch Museum. De AHM-collectie
toont objecten, foto's en documentatie over de geschiedenis van
de universiteit en het studentenleven. Via de Nonnensteeg loopt
u naar de 8. Sterrewacht. De
Sterrewacht is één van de oudste
sterrenwachten van Nederland
en bezit een schat aan informatie
over sterrenkunde. U vervolgt uw
route langs het Rapenburg waar
u 9. In Den Gapender Eter vindt.
Dit restaurant is gevestigd in een
historisch pand, waar begin vorige
eeuw een drogisterij onderdak
vond. Ga links richting de Steenschuur. Hier is het 10. Kamerlingh
Onnes Gebouw gevestigd. Dit is
de broedplaats van Nobelprijzen.
Tegenwoordig is de Faculteit der
Rechtsgeleerdheid er gevestigd.
Loop langs het Van der Werfpark
en u komt bij het ll. Huis van
Thorbecke, waar hij de Nederlandse Grondwet ontwierp. Bij 12.
Raamsteeg 2 kunt u maandelijks
terecht voor evenementen op het
raakvlak van kunst en wetenschap. Na dit rondje kunt u even
ontspannen in het 13. Van der
Werfpark. Steek de Nieuwe Rijn
over. In de Beschuitsteeg vindt u
het 14. Leiden American Pilgrim
Museum. Dit museum vertelt het
verhaal van de oprichters van New

England, de Pilgrims. Steek het water
weer over en u komt uit bij restaurant
15. City Hall. Langs de mooie plekken
bij de Vismarkt en Aalmarkt loopt u over
de brug naar
16. Fratelli, een Italiaans restaurant aan
de Lange Mare. Wanneer u links afslaat,
komt u bij 17. Museum Boerhaave, het
Rijksmuseum voor de Geschiedenis van
de Natuurwetenschappen en van de Geneeskunde. De collecties weerspiegelen
ruim vierhonderd jaar Nederlandse wetenschapsgeschiedenis. U sluit de route
af bij de 18. Beestenmarkt. Ook staat
Leiden bekend om het Bio Science Park
en het LUMC. Leiden Bio Science Park
is het grootste life sciences cluster in
Nederland en behoort tot de top vijf
van meest succesvolle science parks
in Europa. Het LUMC is een modern
universitair medisch centrum voor
onderzoek, onderwijs en patiëntenzorg
met een hoog kwaliteitsprofiel en een
sterke wetenschappelijke oriëntatie.

start the walk at the 1. Stationsweg. Walk straight ahead and you
will see on your left-hand side
2. Stadscafé van der Werff and to
your right the National Museum of
Ethnology. Turn right and you will
come to Leiden’s famous
3. Molen de Put. This windmill
gets its name from Jan Janzoon
Put, who built a mill on a bastion
on the Rijn in 1619. Rembrandt
van Rijn was born in the Weddesteeg, on the other side of the
water. This is also where you will
find the 4. Rembrandtpark. If you
walk back to the Witte Singel, you
will come to the
5. Universiteitsbibliotheek (University Library). Along the Rapenburg
you will find the V. Academiegebouw (Academy Building), the oldest building of Leiden University,
the first University to be founded
in the Netherlands. The Academy
Building is also home to the
7. Academisch Historisch Museum (Academic Historic Museum),
where you will find a collection of
objects, photos and documents on
the history of the University and
student life. You can walk through
the Keizerstraat to the
8. Sterrewacht (Leiden Observatory). This is one of the oldest
observatories in the Netherlands
and it houses a treasure chest of
information about astronomy. If
you continue along the Rapenburg, you will come to 9. In Den
Gapender Eter, a restaurant located
in a historic building that housed
a pharmacy at the start of the last
century. Turn to the left, in the direction of the Steenschuur, where
the 10. Kamerlingh Onnes Gebouw
is located, the breeding ground
for Nobel Prizes and the location
of the Faculty of Law of Leiden
University. If you walk through
the Van der Werf park, you will
come to the ll. Huis van Thorbecke,
