Directions: Fred the Fireman has been called in to rescue a
cat from a tree. The cat climbed up the tree to a limb 21 feet
above the ground and can’t get down. Fred is 6 feet 1 inch tall
and can safely reach one foot above his head. He has a 16 foot
ladder.
To keep the ladder from tipping, Fred must lean it against the
tree at a 70 degree angle with the ground. How high can Fred
reach? Can he save the cat? Make sure you include an
explanation with necessary computations, sketches, formulas,
and notes.
