The departments of Marine Science and Fisheries, Crop Science and Biology at Sultan
Qaboos University are looking a Post-doc to work under the TRC funded multidisciplinary
research project entitled:
“Biofouling in Oman waters and prevention of microbial and algal fouling using novel
nanorod photocatalytic coatings”.
1. Post-Doctoral Fellow (one Position)
Description of the position
Applicants are invited for a 1 year post-doctoral position with possible extension for another
year starting from February 2016. The applicant is going to conduct research, supervise
students and to publish scientific results in the area of microbial ecology. The aim of the
research is to investigate spatial and temporal dynamics of microbial biofilms developed on
artificial substrata. The candidate will be engaged in a team work, which will involve
collaboration with colleagues within Oman, Germany, France and the U.S.
Qualifications and competencies
Ph.D. in microbial ecology, or microbiology or related discipline;
2-3 years relevant post-doctoral experience in a recognized institution;
Knowledge of molecular biology methods, “omics” approaches (metagenomics,
transcriptomics, proteomics) and bioinformatics.
Proven publication and presentation record;
Excellent oral and written skills;
Ability to solve problems;
Team working and leadership credentials;
Demonstration of project management and networking skills;
Experience in dealing with microsensors and microbial biofilms are highly desirable.
Duties and responsibilities
The candidate will be mainly responsible for:
Conducting field and laboratory work;
Analysis of data;
Publishing the results in peer review high impact factor journals;
Presenting the results at the international conferences;
Composing high quality technical reports;
Providing technical support to the multidisciplinary project team;
Supporting associated project Ph.D. and M.Sc. Degree candidates.
Eligibility
All candidates are equally eligible. In a case of two equally skilled candidates the
preference will be given to Omani citizens.
Salary
The salary will be Tax Free and as per the guidelines of The Research Council (TRC) Oman
and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).
