The acoelomate and pseudocoelomate worms are among the most important parasites of humans,
responsible for numerous illnesses and deaths around the world and some closer to home than you think! This
assignment will involve you and a partner if you choose, investigating one of the diseases caused by one of these
parasitic worms, and creating a project to display your learning.
The project format may be one of the following and needs to be in your own words:
*Poster
*Power Point Presentation (8 Slides Minimum)
*Video Tape- You as a newscaster covering a story on an outbreak. (3 min. minimum)
*Cartoon Story- With Colored Displays (8 Cells)
*Other- Must be approved by me! (Madame Hunter)

1.) Name of disease, common name of worm, and Kingdom, Phylum, Genus and Species (Pick
one species if you find more than one!)
2.) Picture of worm, stages of worm (eggs) or person with symptoms from worm infection.
(Partner Groups: Include 4 pictures and a sketch, sketches must include labels of
anterior / posterior regions, head ,mouth and a title.)
3.) Where in the world the worm is found? specific locations and its specific habitats (include
where is it found when it is not in a host!)
4.) Worm Characteristics- How big is it? How long does it live? Unique body features?
5.) Incidence of infection- Who is infected (race, age, healthy vs. unhealthy?) How many
people are infected? ( statistics on how common or rare the worm infection is.)
(Partner groups: Include the risk factors for getting this infection. What makes
someone more likely to become infected?)
6.) Life Cycle:
a.) DESCRIBE in your words the stages and characteristics using specific names
b.) DESCRIBE how the infection is transmitted
c.) What are the hosts- intermediate and final (humans)
(Partner groups: Hand-drawn, colored & labeled sketch of the life cycle- not a trace or exact
replica of text)
7.) Effects on the host:
a.) DESCRIBE in your words the symptoms of the infection- include early and advanced
stages
b.) DESCRIBE general treatment- do not list specific medicine names, only general
c.) DESCRIBE the disease outcome- is there a cure, chronic illness or death?
