Grade 9 Physical and Health Education Healthy Active Living
Course Description:
This co-education course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle and participation
in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that have the potential to engage students’ interest
throughout their lives. In this course outdoor activities such as high and low initiative tasks,
wilderness navigation, biking, downhill, cross country skiing, canoe tripping and winter
camping will empower students to learn through experience and exploration. Students will be
given opportunities to practice goal setting, decision making, social and interpersonal skills.
Students will also study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental
health, and personal safety.
Term Work (70% of the final mark)
Unit Title, Big Ideas, and Unit Culminating Tasks
As per Ministry policy, the Term Work has been set at 70% of the course mark. It will be composed
of:
Regular Activity Application
Environmental Awareness Assignment
Wilderness Assignment (Canoe Trip and
Paddle)
Winter Experience - snow shelters
Tests/Quizzes
Culminating Tasks/Exams (30% or the final mark)

As per Ministry policy, the Final Summative Evaluation has been set at 30% of the course mark.

Promotional Video (reflection) (15%)
