What are we learning?
I hope everyone enjoyed a nice three day weekend, and tried to
stay warm! This week, we will be continuing our study of sight
words by focusing on the words he and she. We will be finding it
within our poem of the week, A Tongue Twister, and searching for
it within the books that we read. During literacy centers, we will be
making mittens with tissue paper and cotton balls, working on an
alphabet puzzle, completing an activity about Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr., working on pbskids.org, reading big books, completing a
vowel and consonant sort, and making a dinosaur color book.
When we meet for guided reading groups, we will continue to work
on our letter sounds, sight words, and reading grade level texts. We
will be writing letters and words in sand to help us with our
writing and recognition of letters and high frequency words. We
will also get the chance to write letters and words in shaving cream
this week. It will be a lot of fun, but messy!  During read alouds,
we will be continuing our study of Tacky the Penguin and working
on our understanding of the characters and setting of the book.
During math, we will be finishing up topic 5. By the end of this
topic, we should be able to recognize, count, and write the numbers
0 to 20. This is difficult for many of the children, so please continue
to work on this at home. Our math tubs will continue to be focused
on counting and cardinality. During writer’s workshop, we will be
working on writing stories and stretching the sounds in words out
to help us write them. On Friday, I will not be at school. I am
attending a professional development conference, but have a
wonderful substitute teacher that will be in my place. Have a great
short week!
