Anxiety - Dr Dean Semmens Lecture Outline Welcome to the Anxiety lecture. Fear is normally evoked by a threatening stimulus, called a stressor, and it is manifest by a response known as the stress response. A healthy person regulates the stress response through learning. The hallmark of anxiety disorders is the occurrence of an inappropriate stress response to either when a stressor is not present, or when it is not immediately threatening. In this session you will learn about the psychological and physiological signs of different types of anxiety, the brain regions thought to mediate their manifestation, and treatment options for patients suffering with the disorder.
