Why study Community Health?
The Community Health program is a behaviorally-based program
in which students learn to design, implement, and evaluate
programs and activities that improve the health of all people.
Majors in this program use a wellness approach emphasizing the
physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and
environmental aspects of health.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this program typically work in public health and
nonprofit agencies such as:
• Spokane Regional Health District
• Community Health Education and Resources
• American Cancer Society
• American Heart Association
• American Lung Association
Students are also prepared to work in worksite wellness programs
at community colleges, universities, private industry, and
government agencies. The program prepares students to sit for
the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing
(Certified Health Education Specialist) exam and for graduate
school programs in public health, health promotion, and
community health education.
Public Health or Worksite Wellness
This major offers two tracks – Public Health or Worksite Wellness –
and students choose one to match the kind of environment in
which they would like to work.
