BA in English with Literary Studies Option
(75 credits)
English Department
College of Arts, Letters, and Education
Why study English and Literature?
At the heart of the English program is a passion for critically, creatively,
and professionally understanding and using the English language. The
Literary Studies option emphasizes the understanding of great literary
works and the writing of analytical essays. Students will refine their
speaking and writing skills through critical examinations of literary text.
Scholarship Opportunities
The EWU English Department offers three scholarships per year to
students achieving academic excellence in their major.
The Ralph Tieje, Jr. Endowment is awarded to an English major in his or
her fourth year on the basis of scholarship and character. In recent
years, the amount awarded has been $1,350.
The Harold and Verna Kleiner Memorial Fund is an annual scholarship
awarded to a worthy and deserving student studying any option in the
English Department. The selection of the scholarship recipient and
amount is determined jointly by the university's Board of Trustees and
English Department faculty. In recent years, the amount awarded has
been $375.
The Colton-Huston Scholarship is awarded each year to no more than
four female undergraduate English majors who are studying either
