The binder has everything your student may need to study or complete their homework efficiently at home or on the go. TCA students who have graduated always report back to us that their organization skills helped them tremendously. Here are some tips for setting up your binder: Purchase a 1½”-2” binder. Select the size on what your student can carry. Buying a heavy duty binder may cost more now, but should last the whole year – maybe even two years. Buying plastic dividers with pockets keeps it materials together. Also, the plastic type lasts at least the year. Careful not to load up your binder with too much notebook paper… it makes it heavy. 10 sheets in each section (except math) should be plenty – Then you will have more at home or at school as you need to replenish. Put your graph paper in the math section. Arrange your dividers with your first class at the front and your last class at the back. 3rd-8th will have a separate 1” binder for Spanish and Latin. Remember: all the work for each subject goes behind the divider Your pencil pouch should go in front of your first divider. Your pencil pouch should always have three sharpened pencils, as well as anything else you may need to complete your homework. Now that it is put together… keep it organized! After the pencil pouch will be the school calendar and homework sheet. The homework sheet will be filled out each day. Worksheets should be “locked” into the subject they relate to. If it has holes, it should be “locked” into the rings. If holes tear, the page should be repaired with tape and a hole punch – until repair can be made, paper should be in the pocket of the relating subject, not in the front or back pocket of the binder. If there is a loose worksheet for homework, the worksheet should be placed in the pocket of that subject, and replaced when complete. Front and back pockets should be reserved for papers that don’t have a subject.
