Overview
Specific Learning Task
Learning Objectives
Colored paper, projector, computer (with internet), and an imagination.
The purpose of this lesson is to further the
English vocabulary of these students by teaching 10 basic colors in English using colored paper and a YouTube video.
The children will be able to recite and recognize 10 basic colors in English.
Students will be able to do the following:
1.
Identify and pronounce 10 basic colors in English. These colors are:
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Brown
Violet
Black
Grey
White
Procedure 1.
Have the students pick up a piece of colored paper when they walk in the door.
2.
Each student will match the color they pick up to the name of the color in
English. This will be a problem because they will not know what the name is.
Help guide the students to the name of the color in English.
3.
Once the students are in groups go to this You Tube link
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSKTEvPpX
Tc )
, which will go over the colors, and their names in English. Have the students repeat the name after it has been said. This will require the teacher to stop the video after each color. DO
NOT take the quiz at the end.
4.
The students will then be taught the names in Thai and English, and they will be shown an object that is that specific color in order to try to make another connection of the color.
5.
Have the students hold up their piece of colored paper while saying the name of the color in English. The students should be familiar with the names and colors after three to five repetitions.
6.
Next have the groups try to touch an object in the classroom that corresponds to the color in English. To engage them further make it a contest between the groups to see who can find the most objects in a 30 second time frame.
7.
Finally, ask the groups to name the color as it appears on the projector screen.
This will be the quiz on the You Tube video.
Teaching Standards The teacher will be able to keep the class interested in learning the colors and be able to assess the student’s progress through repetition skills.
Assessment The students will be able to verbally say and recognize the 10 colors in English. This will be done by a verbal test of the whole class.

In this case study I took the liberty of assuming that the classroom has a projector, screen, computer, and Internet access. This would allow for the use of a YouTube video that will show 10 basic colors and it will say the colors names in English. This will be beneficial because it show the students how a person who speaks English says the names of the colors. The colored pieces of construction paper will help the students identify with a certain color and possibly make them focus on learning at least one colors name. Another thing that is mentioned is the use of repetition. This is an important topic that my Spanish teacher implemented. Ms. Read said “by the time a student has heard the word or phrase four or more times that they can already recognize it.” The part in the lesson plan about finding objects in the classroom allows the students to move around, actively engage in using their new knowledge, and learn while having fun (Faurrg, 2008). Finally the exam will be verbal. This will show the instructor whether or not the students grasped the names of the colors and if they can match them to the specific color.
