INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS - TEACHER CLASSIFICATION
The Catholic Schools Office, Diocese of Broken Bay has many employment opportunities for
teachers. To gain employment in a systemic school in the Broken Bay Diocese, applicants must be
classified to work in the Diocese which includes provision of a 4 year teaching qualification and meet
the legislative requirements for child protection. If applicable, applicants must also be accredited to
teach in NSW and meet the English language proficiency requirements.
Teacher classification is based on qualifications and service. Prospective teachers are required to
complete the classification form in its entirety and submit mandatory documentation to support their
application (Section J – Documentation Checklist of the classification form which identifies the
documents which are to be copied and signed by a Justice of the Peace or solicitor, certifying that the
originals have been sighted). All documentation requested for classification must be submitted in
hard copy and addressed to the Classifications Officer at the CSO. Please check all boxes of the
certified documents you have included in your application for classification under Section J.
As part of the classification and/or accreditation processes you are required to complete and sign the
declaration at Section K. Anyone applying for classification is required to apply for a Working with
Children Check (WWCC) and provide their number.
To apply for a WWCC:
1. fill in an online form at www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au or call the helpline to have someone fill
in a form for you
and
2. take the application number to a motor registry or government access centre, pay the fee (if
applicable) and have your identity confirmed (you will need to take appropriate identification
with you)
Successful applicants will receive a letter from the CSO indicating their interim classification, WWCC
number and BOSTES (Board of Studies, Teaching & Educational Standards) accreditation number
(if applicable). This letter must accompany all job application documentation.
Your classification and Employee ID will not be activated until the CSO is advised by a school
principal that you have been successful in gaining employment in a systemic school within
the Diocese of Broken Bay.
Teachers seeking permanent or temporary employment should respond to advertisements appearing
on the CSO website www.csodbb.catholic.edu.au and/or on www.teachers.on.net. Teachers seeking
casual employment should apply directly to each school, providing their Teacher Application Form, a
copy of their classification letter and if applicable, a copy of their current BOSTES identification card
and their letter of accreditation.
Applications from teachers who have not worked in Broken Bay within 2 years of being classified will
be destroyed unless applicants request their classification application be returned to them.

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS - BOSTES
The Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) supports great teaching
through overseeing a system of accreditation which helps teachers to inspire lifelong learning in
students, further improve the status of the teaching profession and recognise the invaluable role
teachers play in the community.

the NSW Institute of Teachers and the Board of Studies NSW. The Teacher Accreditation Act 2004
sets out the legal basis for accreditation.

PRINCIPLES OF EMPLOYMENT –
BROKEN BAY SYSTEMIC SCHOOLS
The philosophy of Catholic education, expressed in a growing number of documents and
policy statements over the last decade, guides the Catholic school in its functioning.
Whilst it is accountable to the community at large for the provision of quality education to
young citizens, it is also accountable to the Catholic church community for providing this
within the context of Gospel values as espoused by the Catholic tradition. The Catholic
school is more than an educative institution: it is a key part of the Catholic Church, an
essential element in the Church’s mission. So, too, the employee in the Catholic school is
more than an employee: he/she ministers in the name of the Catholic Church.
All employees in the Catholic school have an indispensable role to play. It is expected of
all employees employed in a Catholic school that they:
1. by their work and personal example, strive to inculcate in students an appreciation
and acceptance of Catholic teaching and values;
2. avoid, whether by word, action or known life-style, any influence upon students that is
contrary to the teaching and values of the Catholic community in whose name they
act;
3. accept and espouse the Catholic educational philosophy of the school;
4. develop and maintain an adequate understanding of those aspects of Catholic
teaching that touch upon their work;
5. be suitable, competent, employees, committed to the goals of Catholic education;
6. be committed to regular ongoing professional development.
